Job Title: Senior Accountant

Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the effective management and overseeing daily operations in the accounting department and providing assistance on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to financial management, reporting, budget management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs, securing of new funding, treasury management, payroll, customer payment process for the organisation.
Typically Senior Accountant will ensure effective analysis of financial transactions and present valuable information about the company’s performance before the management
Key Responsibilities
Direct the organisation’s financial and budgeting activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase operational efficiency.
Coordinate the development and implementation of budgetary control systems, recordkeeping systems, or other administrative control processes across the organisation.
Analyse and evaluate the operations of the organisation to determine areas of potential cost reduction/optimization or policy change.
Advise the organisation on all financial issues to ensure decisions regarding finances are made in the best interest of the organisation.
Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department
Prepare or present comprehensive reports concerning business activities, expenses, budgets, government statutes or rulings, or other items affecting business operations and other organisational services.
Implement corrective action plans to solve company-wide financial problems.
Drafting Company Accounting manual, process and policy document for the Department
Monitoringand analyzing accounting data and producing periodic financial reports or statements
Establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies and principles
Develop processes and policies to reduce operation Cost within the company
Responsible for and ensure that credit risk is balanced with business objectives, targets are met and that only valid claims with proper management authorization are paid
Maintains company confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential
Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs while, recommending, developing and maintaining solutions to business and financial problems
Engage with auditors to answer questions in regard to control processes and account reconciliations
Secures financial information by completing data base backups
Maintains financial security by following internal controls
Prepares payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements
Prepares periodic balance sheet analysis
Preparation of monthly invoices and salary payments for clients and internal Staff.
Preparation of Monthly pension and PAYE and remitted immediately after receipt of clients payment
Prepare weekly and monthly reports on Company accounts transactions
Ensures compliance with government regulations, establishing and implementing policies on matters such as payroll advancements to employees
Keeping track of all payments and expenditures, including payroll, purchase orders, invoices, statements, etc.
Follow up with all clients’ invoice payments monthly,
Remittance of monthly VAT,
Preparation of salary breakdown in line with Nigerian Tax law,
Proactively handle all tax issues
Accrual and posting of all daily transactions into SAP accounting solution
Monthly reconciliation of clients, vendor and Bank,
Attend/ assist the Company’s auditors with necessary information
Develop, maintain and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs,
Negotiate with vendors for services and repairs at a reasonable cost, maintain and create a template that allows for departmental head approvals
Maintains a professional and technical knowledge base by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; participating in professional societies
Accomplishing results by performing the duty
Ensure that cost saving processes are put in place and continue to be monitored
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
3+ years of accounting experience.
Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP.
Strong financial analysis skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Strong organizational and stress management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
Ability to train and manage staff.
Ability to work with little to no supervision.
