Logistics Manager at Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) - WaCA

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international, private, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization. Our organization offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria since February 1996. A Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria facilitates this. We are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, State and Local Government departments of health on various health projects.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Logistics Manager

Location: Abuja (FCT), frequent field visits (Kano, Katsina, Cross River etc)
Employment Type: Fixed-term contract and working hours according to Nigerian law

Accountabilities / Responsibilities (non-exhaustive list)

• Assisting the Logistics Coordinator in the definition and follow-up of logistics activities in the capital and fields, in conjunction with other coordinators and field team he/she identifies and provides responses to the necessary needs.
• Planning, coordinating and monitoring all logistics related activities of the coordination and providing support to the other department, according toMSFprotocols and standards in order to ensure an optimal running of the project.
• Supervise his/her staff. Participating in the planning and implementation, together with the Logistics Coordinator, and the HR Coordinator, the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, briefing/debriefing, evaluation, detection of potential, development and communication) of the logistics staff in the capital in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required to correctly perform all logistics activities.
• Ensuring and monitoring the implementation of logistics/technical activities in the capital including the following:
  • Logistics: construction, energy, transport of goods and staff, communications, water and sanitation, vehicles and engines, equipment/installation and infrastructures, communications, installation and maintenance of functional office space(s) and lodging facilities for international staff in adequate living conditions
  • Supply: Support on implementation and maintenance of an appropriate supply chain of the mission
• Participating in monthly meeting and reports according to guidelines
• Implementing all administrative related activities linked to logistics (orders, insurances, vehicle contracts, etc.).
• Acting and replacement of the field’s logistic managers during break and emergencies
• Participates in the preparation of security guidelines for the mission. Ensures that security is guaranteed at the highest level possible for all the staff working in the project by implementing all MSF guidelines and following up security issues closely with the logistic coordinator.
• Participates in any emergency activity or exploratory visit in or out of the project, being ready to take directly in charge all logistics related activities and staff.

Requirements

• Education: Essential Technical Diploma or Technical University Degree, preferably as an Engineer.
• Experience: Essential at least two years of working experience in logistics related activities on a similar position. Desirable previous experience with MSF as logistics manager.
• Competencies: Flexibility, organizational skills, teamwork, team management, stress management
• Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel).

Remuneration
According to the MSF salary scale (Level 9 according to MSF salary grid) plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.
