Credit Risk Analyst at Umba Nigeria

Umba combines advanced tools and techniques to optimize risk exposures in emerging markets that are currently underserved by traditional banking services. The Umba platform allows users to apply, receive and repay microloans through their mobile phone while using machine learning to underwrite using a risk score that is highly accurate and improves over time.

Objective

• To produce insights on lending origination and performance by proposing dashboards & metrics to optimize credit, leveraging data analytics and SQL skills
• Our credit risk analytics envision for Umba: Being a credit risk analyst at Umba is to be the eyes of the business through advanced analytical techniques to help build a sustainable lending proposition for our customers and stakeholders.

Requirements
Things we think that would help to be a key player for this role:

• For this role, intermediate knowledge of SQL queries is the every day’s bread. While advanced topics are a huge plus (i.e materialized views, partitions, query plan optimization, table stats, triggers, transactions and procedures), we use PostgreSQL but any other flavor is adaptable
• At least 2 years experience in business intelligence/Analytics/Data science roles with technical involvement in data manipulation or programming languages
• Experience of financial products, particularly fintech lending, is a plus
• Ability to abstract the technical complexity of a query, and easily explain the output in a business way for management team trying to understand the users and business results
• Creative in how to propose and visualize business patterns to communicate insights to the credit team. You will initially be helped through the guidance of the credit team, and finding the answers from your side would be an excel skill in umba for an accelerated growth in all senses
• Ability and desire to navigate through data, metrics or dashboards to answer complex business questions

• Understand and engage with our app’s products and our vast data warehouse to creatively propose important metrics to look after and solve credit risk questions for team members
• Ownership in assessing and creating data support visualizations to prove or disprove hypothesis that explain metrics and user’s behavior, both recently and historically
• Discover customer’s drivers that motivate users to engage with the app’s lending products.
• Create dashboards and deep data insights exploration routines to assist the credit team’s daily tracking
