Job Description
Our client is recruiting for a Head of Pastoral care based in Kaduna South.
They are looking for an outstanding and inspirational individual to head the Pastoral care unit as Head of Pastoral Care. A candidate with experience and a strong understanding of the pressures and expectations of a secondary school.
The dynamic role will also manage the boarding hous as Head of Boarding and be a key leadership team member. The successful candidate will be passionate about outstanding pastoral care, responsibility for the welfare of all the children in the secondary school, and the overall administration and oversight of pastoral provision.
The Head of Pastoral Care is expected to be fully conversant with all school policies and to play their part in promoting good conduct amongst pupils, both within departments and throughout the school.
In charge of the Pastoral curriculum, you will ensure that suitable activities are in place to develop Life Skills in students.
You are also expected to play a full part in the life of the school by evaluating students against the Pastoral curriculum and providing termly reports on each student. You will also be involved with sports and supporting school events such as concerts, plays, fixtures, graduations and other activities.
Responsible for all boarding house staff, you will report to the Principal, and work closely with the Guardian counsellor.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate is likely to have the following qualifications and experience:
Relevant honours Degree and Qualified Teaching Status.
6+ years experience working in a school.
Successful leadership of an academic or pastoral department for a minimum of three (3) years.
Be an outstanding classroom practitioner.
Experience in schools, either Prep or Senior.
An understanding of, and commitment to, the nature of boarding school life.
Evidence of a commitment to their professional development.
Evidence of ICT confidence.
Personal Qualities:
A natural and confident leader.
Excellent planning, administration and time management skills.
The ability to work to deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
A confident and outgoing personality who will be able to maintain the support of the Common Room, parents and pupils.
The self-confidence to lead public gatherings of pupils, parents, staff and other visitors to the school
Commitment to school improvement.
Have a range of leadership styles, and be able to recognise when to adopt different styles successfully
Enjoy the parent-school interface.
Good conflict resolution skills.
Be able to take an idea and develop it through to completion.
Be observant, have an eye for details, spot problems and develop generic solutions.
Integrity and strong moral values.
A good team player and someone to provide unswerving support to the Principal and the whole school.
