Head of Legal at a Reputable Group of Companies

A reputable Group of companies with a head office based in Abuja is recruiting a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head of Legal

Location: Abuja

Objectives

• Provide leadership to the Legal Function of the Group:
• Provide strategic support and advice to the Management of the
• Group on Legal matters, legal risks and developments that affect the Group, its processes, procedures and controls, and legal practice within the Group:
• Proactively ensure the legal defence and assurance, Internally and externally, of the business and sustainability of the Group.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Laws Degree
• Master of Laws Degree will be an added advantage;
• BL (Barrister-at-law) properly certified and accredited by the
• Nigerian Law School in Nigeria (PROVIDED THAT candidate must have second class upper division from either the University or Nigerian Law School)
• Minimum of 15 years post-call experience, 5 of which must have been spent as an In-house counsel, at a minimum level of Manager (or equivalent) at the time of application; reporting at a Management or senior Management level; in a top tier company or establishment:
• In-house counsel experience must cover Drafting and Conveyance, Commercial Law, Labour Law, Land & Property Law,
• Securitisation and Company Law with in-depth knowledge in these areas of law;
• Significant experience in Dispute resolution practice:
• Experienced in Business / Finance, Commercial settlement transactions, Cross Border Transactions, HR practice will be a significant advantage.

Skills:

• Analytical, versatile in proffering legal guidance, opinions and strategies;
• Leadership skills, ability to motivate and mentor the team of lawyers, strong interpersonal skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, fluency in the
• English language;
• Attention to detail and good management skills;
• Strong IT skills and knowledge relevant to duties.
