Rector at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic

Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic was established by "The Katsina Polytechnic Law" which came into operation on 1st January, 1983. This Law abrogated the North Central College of Arts, Science and Technology Law of 1975 and effectively created the polytechnic as a legal entity out of the defunct KCAST. This Law was subsequently amended by the Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic (Amendment) Law of 2003.

The polytechnic is the premier Tertiary institution in the State and is situated along Tafawa Balewa Road, Katsina between Km 4.4 and Km 11.2 along Western side of the trunk ‘B’ Road linking Katsina city with Dutsin-ma. The institution has a mission to provide the desired training and undertake innovative research in order to meet the technical manpower needs of the state and Nigeria at large and with a vision to become a world class Polytechnic that excels in the provision of technical and technological manpower through training and research for the overall societal advancement.

Following the expiration of the tenure of the Rector, applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position below:

Duties

• The Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic.
• He/She has power to exercise general authority over both the staff and students.
• He/She is responsible to the Polytechnic Governing Council in ensuring the fulfillment of the objectives of the Polytechnic, in maintaining and promoting efficiency and good discipline.
• In addition to proven Management and leadership experience, the successful candidate must have a demonstrable passion for academic endeavours and must also be credible.

Academic Qualifications and Qualities

• The Candidate must possess at least a Masters Degree in Engineering, Science and Technology, Technical Education or Management and Social Sciences not below the rank of a Chief Lecturer from a recognized Academic Tertiary Institution. Possession of PhD is an added advantage.
• A minimum of second class lower division Degree or a minimum of Lower Credit In Higher National Diploma (HND) in the following disciplines: Technology, Applied Science, Commerce and Management from a recognized institution.
• He/She should have at least Twenty Three (23) years cognate Teaching and Administrative Experience, of which 10 years must be in a Polytechnic or similar TVET Institution.
• The candidate should have a very good overall performance with a record of Academic and Administrative competence as well as concrete evidence of contribution to the advancement of knowledge and service to humanity.
• A Chief Lecturer from the Polytechnic Sector with not less than five years' experience on the rank.
• He/She must not be more than fifty-nine (59) years of age as at 03/04/2023 (date the post will become vacant).
• Demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership initiative and creativity in policy formulation, good human relations and positive managerial attributes.
• Provide evidence of membership of professional body/bodies recognized by Federal / Katsina State Government.
• Provide evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals as well as presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars and workshops.
• Must be a person who is not likely to pursue racial, gender, political, religious or other sectional interest.
• Morally sound, of impeccable character, proven integrity and free from financial embarrassment.
• Physically and mentally fit (with evidence from a Government Hospital); and
• Proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Terms of Appointment and Condition of Service
The appointment is for a single tenure of five years in line with extant provisions. The salary is consolidated (CONPOCASS) and the appointee shall enjoy any other benefits attached to the position of a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic, as approved by the Polytechnic Governing Council.
