The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Duties

• Job holder conducts daily operational supervision for a 9 member Surveillance Detection Unit (SDU), as well as accountable for operational Surveillance Detection equipment assigned to SDU.
• Incumbent identifies suspicious activity and/or possible surveillance and submits information to support a preliminary analysis;
• Engages in close observation to identify and report potential hostile surveillance directed against U.S. Government facilities, employees, family members, and residences; and initiates emergency responses as necessary to safeguard life and property.
• The incumbent directly reports to Surveillance Detection (SD) Coordinator.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
Education Requirements:

• Completion of Secondary School is required. 

Experience:

• A minimum of one (1) year of military, police, or private experience in the field of security is required. This includes six (6) months of supervisory experience. 

Job Knowledge:

• Knowledge of surveillance techniques, as well as familiarity with local pedestrians and vehicular traffic patterns and habits is required.  Working knowledge of the preparation of reports and schedules, awareness of cultural norms and customs is required.

Evaluations:

• This may be tested. Applicants MUST address ALL language proficiency requirements to be considered.

Language: 

• Good working knowledge of English Reading/Writing/Speaking is required.

Skills and Abilities: 

• Must possess a valid Nigeria drivers license.
• Ability to manage the work of others in a team environment, as well as the ability to prepare oral and written reports, and operate communications Surveillance Detection (SD) equipment and cameras are required.
• Basic computer skills are required, to include keyboarding with accuracy and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite - Word and Excel.
