Description 

• Action Against Hunger is currently looking to fill the role of Nutrition Assistant, who will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the care group model throughout the project life cycle.
• This involves providing oversight and supervision of the care group promoter, lead mothers and neighbour women.
• S/he is responsible for planning of project activities, monitoring and reporting.
• Participate in all activities related to cooking demonstration, one to one tailored infant and young child feeding (IYCF) counselling sessions to all mothers with children under 24 months.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Nutrition and health officer in organizing LGA based coordination meeting addressing porridge mum activities;
• Ensure use of predefined quality improvement verification checklist (QIVC), on-job coaching guidance as well as support care group promoters in using these tools;
• Ensure strong communication links with all other CMAM staff, providing advice and support to all other staff members on infant and young child feeding issues as and when they arise;
• Conduct education sessions within the surrounding community on the importance of infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices in conjunction with community mobilisers;
• Aid in establishing care group approach (CGs) within the community to provide additional support for mothers and extend knowledge of good infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices;
• Support in recruiting care group promoters across the catchment area of the project intervention;
• Conduct care group training in collaboration with care group facilitators for the care group promoters;
• Improve on the linkages between the care group beneficiaries with primary health care and  community management of acute malnutriition (CMAM) program and other ongoing programs in the community where applicable;
• Participate in surveillance activities including home visit to monitor nutrition situation and program activities;
• Maintain and update database for health workers, community health workers/volunteers, trainings and share with line manager;
• Prepare consolidated tracking tool for supportive supervision visits/on-job coaching sessions and share with line manager;
• Regularly report and coordinate with line manager regarding challenges, issues faced in the field for timely and appropriate decision-making.

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Diploma Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Health Education, Food Security or other relevant qualifications with experience in Public Health and CMAM Programming;
• Minimum of one (1) year experience in a primary health care program;
• An excellent report-writing skill is required including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Hausa;
• Good Communication and Interpersonal skills;
• Team management experience with similar programs;
• Ability to observe and to provide feedback on the activities;
• Ability to manage staff according to local culture and organization policies;
• Ability to work in remote location.                        

Starting Basic Salary
NGN216,006 per month (excluding other benefits).
