We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Online Local News Editor

Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

• Oversee the editorial content of the Online Local News Editor, including writing, editing, and proofreading news articles for accuracy, grammar, and style.
• Manage the news editorial calendar, assigning and coordinating news coverage with writers and reporters.
• Stay updated on current events, trends, and news topics to identify and pursue relevant stories for publication.
• Optimize content for search engine optimization (SEO) and ensure proper formatting and consistency across all published articles.
• Monitor website traffic and engagement metrics to identify opportunities for content improvement and audience engagement.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing and social media, to ensure cohesive messaging and cross-promotion of news content.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in online news editing or journalism.
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with excellent knowledge of AP style.
• Familiarity with SEO best practices and digital publishing tools.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of current events, news trends, and online news landscape.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Requirements:

• Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and online publishing platforms.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed for news coverage.
• Understanding of social media and digital marketing strategies.
• Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
• Experience with multimedia content, such as videos, infographics, and interactive features, is a plus.
