Posted on Mon 15th May, 2023 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (0 comments)

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is an independent humanitarian organisation helping people forced to flee. We work in crises across more than 31 countries, providing emergencies and long-term assistance to millions of people every year. We stand up for people forced to flee, advocating their rights. NORCAP, our global provider of expertise, helps improve international and local ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from crises. NRC also runs the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre in Geneva, a global leader in reporting on and advocating for people displaced within their own country.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Area Manager

Job Identification: 10822
Location: Jos, Plateau
Job Schedule Full time
Job Category: Management

Background

  • NRC has been operating in Nigeria since 2015 with the aim of supporting communities affected by displacement by addressing their basic needs, enhancing their resilience to future shocks, and improving their access to essential services through our six core competencies: WASH, Shelter, Education, ICLA (Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance), LFS (Livelihood and Food Security), Camp Management, and Protection from Violence. In times of emergencies, NRC provides immediate assistance through the rapid response mechanism (RRM).
  • With a staff of 370 and a presence in crucial locations such as Maiduguri, Yola, and Jos, NRC is able to respond to the needs of those affected by conflict in the North-East and North Central regions of Nigeria.
  • In Plateau State, NRC has been operating since 2021, implementing Education, Food Security, and ICLA activities in the Bassa, Bokkos, Riyom, Mangu, Wase, and Shendam Local Government Areas (LGAs).
  • The Area Office is currently running an innovative program focusing on conflict resolution, peace education, conflict management, access to housing, property, and land rights, while also providing livelihoods support and education.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Represent NRC to all relevant authorities and perform all official duties related to NRC's operations in Plateau State, Nigeria
  • Establish a positive work environment based on NRC's values
  • Coordinate all program and operational activities at the area level
  • Conduct regular field missions to monitor project implementation
  • Lead area-level grants management, including grants opening, review, and closing meetings, in coordination with the Grants Manager and Head of Programs
  • Identify, initiate, and follow up on advocacy matters at the area level, in close coordination with the Advocacy Manager and Country Director
  • Ensure that support functions are managed in accordance with NRC policies
  • Ensure that legally binding financial contracts and payments at the area level comply with the authorization table's threshold limit
  • Collaborate with the Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) Manager to ensure that the Security Plan for the area is regularly updated
  • Report any violations of NRC's personnel policies and Code of Conduct to the Country Director
  • Ensure that NRC staff adheres to NRC's security rules and guidelines
  • Ensure high-quality documentation of all NRC activities at the area level
  • Develop approaches and activities that promote the Do No Harm principle through close monitoring of the context

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of four years of experience in a senior management role in a humanitarian, recovery, or development setting
  • Experience working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
  • Some knowledge or experience in at least two of the following program areas is advantageous: cash-based interventions, market-based programming, food security and livelihoods, education (vocational training), protection, and peacebuilding
  • Knowledge of the context in Nigeria or West Africa
  • Experience with rapidly growing programs or startups
  • Experience in supporting fundraising and the development of new proposals is an advantage
  • Experience with community mobilization and engagement
  • Experience in establishing relationships and coordinating with government and traditional leaders
  • Experience with community-based development and grants management
  • Ability to train and manage teams effectively for quality implementation (by listening, advising, supporting, resolving conflicts, motivating, etc.)
  • Proven skills and experience in successfully managing field teams
