Miva Open University is an education company building a new kind of university targeted at the African region. Miva is a Pan- African Distance e-Learning University that is built on a couple of beliefs: Firstly, we believe that the traditional brick and mortar approach to tertiary education is no longer a viable option in serving learners on the African continent. This approach will not provide the capacity and efficacy for the people of the region.

We are building a university experience that can leverage excellent academic talent (wherever it is to be found) and digital technologies to create a new, fresh, more efficacious and more accessible tertiary experience. Our second belief is that this new tertiary experience must not only meet but exceed the existing way of doing things in terms of quality, efficacy and preparing learners for the future. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: WordPress Developer

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 3 Months
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (remote and on-site)

Overall Function

• We are looking for a skilled WordPress Developer who is passionate about creating exceptional websites and possesses a strong understanding of WordPress development.
• The successful candidate will work in a hybrid capacity, both remotely and on-site at our Abuja office.
• This role requires proficiency in WordPress development, front-end web technologies, and a creative mindset to deliver high-quality websites tailored to our clients' requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain WordPress websites using best practices and industry standards.
• Collaborate with designers, content creators, and stakeholders to translate requirements into functional websites.
• Customize and modify existing WordPress themes and plugins to meet project specifications.
• Implement responsive designs and ensure cross-browser compatibility.
• Optimize websites for speed, performance, and search engine optimization (SEO).
• Troubleshoot and debug technical issues to ensure optimal website functionality.
• Stay up to date with the latest WordPress trends, tools, and technologies.
• Provide guidance and technical support to team members when necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
• Relevant certifications in WordPress development or web development are a plus
• Proven work experience as a WordPress Developer or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in WordPress development, including custom theme and plugin development.
• Proficient in front-end web technologies, such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery.
• Experience with responsive design principles and frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap).
• Familiarity with PHP and MySQL.
• Solid understanding of SEO best practices and website optimization techniques.
• Ability to troubleshoot and debug technical issues efficiently.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as within a team.
• Prior experience working on a hybrid work setup is a plus.

Compensation
Competitive rate, to be discussed based on qualifications and experience.
