Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the International Foundation Against Infectious Disease in Nigeria (IFAIN)

The International Foundation Against Infectious Disease in Nigeria (ifain.org) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization whose mission is to execute medical research in the field of infectious diseases with the goal of identifying causes of serious infections and promoting cure or prevention for these conditions in Nigeria. The organization is supported by research grants from foreign universities, and international donor agencies and has collaborative links with several Nigerian tertiary institutions.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Contract

The Position

• We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work on the interdisciplinary One Health Research project.
• The successful applicant will be mentored by senior researchers and will be provided with a supportive environment that emphasizes laboratory skill acquisition, critical thinking, and innovation, with the goal of applying for external funding.
• The fellow would engage in independent and collaborative research within the group, with a focus on microbial and genomic studies using one health approach.

Requirements
To be considered you will need:

• Candidates should possess a Ph.D Degree in a relevant field such as Medical Microbiology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Epidemiology, or a related discipline with comparable experience
• 1 - 2 years’ work experience in NGO data analysis (WGS, meta-genomics)
• A good publication record.

Essential Criteria / Preference:

• Experience in writing manuscripts, technical reports, or other professional writing outputs
• Experience engaging with local or international partners/ stakeholders
• Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience working on interdisciplinary projects
• Experience with both qualitative and quantitative data analysis software (Stata, SAS, SPSS, or R).

Remuneration
A competitive salary package will be offered based on experience and duration post-completion of PhD.
