We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Project Intern

Locations: Jalingo, Taraba & Yola, Adamawa
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Project 

  • Search will implement an 18-month project with an overall goal to contribute to mitigating conflict over natural resources between farmer and herder communities in the Adamawa and Taraba states of Nigeria.
  • The overall goal is supported by four specific objectives and is integrated across consortium partners to play to the strengths and experience of partners, encourage adaptability of the project and contribute to elevated impact. The objectives are highlighted below:
    • Specific Objective 1: Strengthened traditional conflict resolution mechanisms.
    • Specific Objective 2: Improved trust in authorities.
    • Specific Objective 3: Enhanced collaboration on natural resource management.
    • Specific Objective 4: Improved intra and inter-communal perceptions.
  • Search working in consortium with Mercy Corps and IOM will be combining an iterative series of training, Early warning tracking and reporting, media activities, and engagement with policymakers and relevant stakeholders to meet the project goal and objectives.  COMITAS will cover LGAs and communities in Adamawa State -Demsa (New Demsa, Kpasham, Borrong, Bille, and Dong), Girei (Tambo and Gerreng), Numan (Gamadio and Kodompti), Lamurde – (Waduku and Gyawana), Guyuk (Dumna and Bamjiram), Shelleng (Shelleng and Libbo), and Mayo Belwa (Gengle, Ndikong, and Gorobi), and in Taraba State – Lau (Abbare and Lau) and Zing (Monkin A, and Monkin B).The project will be implemented in selected communities across Adamawa and Taraba states and will work to contribute to the mitigation of conflict over natural resources, supporting community-based Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) to identify risks and partner with civil society, security, or government actions to institutionalize strategies and approaches that will build community capacity and skills for sustainable peace. Additionally, the project seeks to ensure conflicts identified through the EWER feed into multi-stakeholder forums for dispute resolution and higher-level policy change and create open and neutral spaces for farmer and pastoralist community members and leaders to identify collective solutions.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support in coordinating and arranging all logistics for various meetings, and workshops, including invitations, venue, participants' travel, and accommodation;
  • In collaboration with the project manager and the state project coordinator, facilitate the creation and implementation of a detailed annual work plan, which identifies sequences of activities needed to successfully implement the project and ensure project objectives are met;
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, support the development and roll-out of detailed implementation plans in communities and LGAs;
  • Support in documenting project activities and ensure that all project data is appropriately secured in collaboration with the DMEL team;
  • Support in monitoring the progress of the project implementation and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the project remains on track and is successfully implemented;
  • Support in establishing a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the project's progress.

Program Monitoring & Evaluation:

  • In collaboration with DMEL Coordinator, assist with the implementation and development of Monitoring and Evaluation tools where necessary;

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Produce activity and monthly reports. 
  • Documenting success stories and the impact of the project. 
  • Any other duties assigned by the line manager.

Educational Requirements

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication, Political Science, Conflict and Peacebuilding Studies, International Relations, Sociology, Psychology or related fields;

Experience:

  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and in a diverse workplace.
  • Had volunteered with Search or any other INGO/NGO and understanding Search’s ethics will be an added advantage
  • Has attended Search’s training in the past (desired but not required)
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and organize workflow to tight time frames and handle multiple tasks.
  • Has a good understanding of the context in the five Local Government Areas we are working in.

Skills Required:

  •  Analytical skills – the ability to analyze data from different perspectives
  • Interpersonal, Coordination, and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Understanding English, Hausa, and Fulfulde languages is a plus factor
  • Ability to work under stringent deadlines with acute attention to detail.
  • Self‐starter with the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Have a fair working knowledge of IT tools (e.g. Internet, MS Office, and Excel).
