Job Title: Communications & Media Officer

Job Summary
The overall aim of this role is to coordinate and deliver resources and processes in support of the media and communication component to our programmes.
The position holder will be responsible for delivering the media part of our programmes, working with partners to achieve impact and improvement in the lives of people in Nigeria on diverse humanitarian issues.
The post holder will also lead, develop and deliver digital strategies and campaigns on the programmes we implement.
S/he will coordinate and implement communications and Public Relations plans and activities in order to reinforce our visibility and position our organization as a recognized voice for the support of poverty eradication, zero hunger, child rights and children’s issues in Nigeria.
The role holder should be able to think creatively and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Specific Responsibilities
Communications strategies:
Develop communication and PR strategies and annual plans, to promote our organization's response in Nigeria and improve communication both internally and externally.
Ensure the production of communication products and materials – especially for social media – is executed in a timely way and followed up to support the country office communications and advocacy strategy, regional and global campaigns and priorities, and to support resource mobilization and donor visibility, as set out in the work plan.
Integrate gender mainstreaming into communications and public relations activities and maintain gender sensitivity towards staff to promote gender equality.
Support our organization campaign, ensure media contribution, support and take initiatives towards campaign objectives in the country.
Support program and advocacy initiatives of our organization with technical coordination and advice to communication plans to meet the required standards.
Contribute to sharing and learning about our organization’s work through efficient use of internal and external communication channels and social media.
Social Media Management:
Overall responsibility for managing our Social Media Accounts and related tools.
Responsible for creating high-quality social media Content for digital publication.
Draft / Review original posts and develop multimedia content (including animated videos, reels, memes etc) for our social media channels e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.
Actively engage with audiences on our social media accounts, e.g., responding to comments, shares, DMs, and creating polls, reshares, posts etc, in a timely manner.
Build and maintain the brand’s presence across multiple social media channels. Display very high levels of professionalism and ensure consistent brand tone, voice, and feel.
Internal Liaison and Communications:
Disseminate a steady flow of information (social media updates, human interest stories, talking points and Q&A, blogs etc) to all staff, partners and other stakeholders.
Regularly provide high-resolution, good quality digital images and video of our work including children and communities’ perspective.
Monitor print and electronic media for mentions of our organization and other topics of interest to the organization, and inform the Executive Director / Project Director of anything important.
Conduct regular field visits to interview staff and beneficiaries write human-interest stories and take photos and video.
Identify and create talking points/Q&A for potential sensitive issues and inform the Project Director and project Officers.
Media and Public Relations:
Facilitate the creation of a strong professional image of our organization amongst external media to reach the right audience within and outside Nigeria.
Develop and manage relationships with national media, journalist networks as well as NGOs and government authorities in the area of communications to ensure our organization's communications reach the right audience.
Act as the main point of contact for media and respond to requests for information from journalists, and donors, including arranging interviews and field visits.
Act as spokesperson for the organization when appropriate and with approval of the PD.
Supports measures to strengthen the capacity of staff to communicate using a variety of channels and for different audiences to support the effective dissemination of our organization programmes and projects: training designated spokespeople and media coaching.
Efficient management of communications in crisis/disaster situations to create the right environment. Report on emergency/disaster situations then according to required standards.
Set up and ensure that data bank and resource centre have updated information for storytelling and provide information for internal and external audiences. Proper documentation of our organization information is available at all times.
Comply with our organization’s Child Protection Policy at all times to safeguard and protect children from all forms of abuse.
Perform any other work related duties to be assigned to support the attainment of organizational goals.
