The job holder will be responsible for planning, implementation, managing and providing direction and leadership of the finance, accounting, tax, control and financial planning and analysis activities of the company by working with the Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) in developing short and long-term financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy Formulation and Implementation
Work with the GCFO on the design, adaptation and implementation of company's finance strategies, policies and systems in line with the Group’s overall strategy and policies.
Oversees all key elements of the Finance function, including financial reporting, financial and management accounting, company tax and regulatory compliance, financial controls, corporate finance, treasury, internal controls & risk management and underlying management information systems utilized.
Provides strategic financial management and leadership support across the business, in line with the overall Group strategy.
Develops, updates and implements finance and tax strategies, policies and processes.
Provides financial management support to the procurement unit and reviews all purchase orders to ensure they are appropriately captured.
Supervises inventory management and control activities with defined performance matrix for minimal product loss and obsolescence.
Establishes appropriate and sound standards and procedures for internal controls in line with Group established policies and procedures.
Coordinates tax compliance activities of the company and provide strategies and guidance on effective tax planning to ensure the company derives optimal benefit from incentives available in the tax laws and regulations
Controls credit limits and approvals for customers.
Establishes and implements the appropriate approval levels across Finance for recording and effecting accruals, and adjustments.
Regularly work with the Group CFO to define and implement cost management frameworks and controls to manage the company’s cost profile.
Formulates and supervises the implementation of asset and liability management strategies.
Financial Planning, Corporate Finance and Budgetary Control:
Coordinates and oversees budget preparation and budgetary controls procedures and activities, reviews periodic performance indicators with budget owners and reports periodically on variances and deviations.
Develops and utilizes financial models and activity-based financial analysis to provide a basis for investment decisions and business planning.
Provides advice on liquidity, investment and financial asset management.
Engages Executive Management to develop short, medium, and long-term financial plans and projections for the company.
Provides advice to Executive Management on the financial implications of business plans and projects.
Advises management on financial benefits or demerits of proposed projects, changes in financial regulations and legislation as well as changes in competition and market trends.
Analyses cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders. Analyses financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas.
Build, review and discuss with management the long-term strategic business plan and financial projections along with related assumptions.
Lead the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) exercise providing insightful information on key value / growing drivers.
Proactively advise the Exco in regard to Risks & Opportunities (R&Os) to the attainment of the AOP (i.e. Latest Estimates, Outlooks) working closely with executive team to mitigate risks while realizing opportunities.
Conduct/review financial feasibility studies of new projects along with decision support to assure that those projects are in line with the company’s investment/business strategy with appropriate ROI’s
Stakeholder and External Relations:
Liaises with external and internal auditors; and ensures the annual and/or periodic audits are seamlessly carried out.
Develops and manages key relationships with relevant external bodies/contacts e.g. regulatory organizations, auditors, solicitors, banks etc. to facilitate effective business operations.
Ensures the company operates in accordance with all relevant laws, regulations and accounting standards applicable to GZI’s operations.
Liaises with current and future investors to ensure value is maximized, the company has various funding options and liquidity is maintained.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions.
People Management:
Oversees the activities of all units within the Finance Team
Develops capability of subordinates towards the achievement of their own performance targets.
Treasury Management, Risk Management & Controls:
Work with the Group CFO as custodian of capital for optimization of same. Regularly reviews and advises on the most critical and appropriate financing options vis a vis debt and equity; long term debt and short term debt financing from time to time
Provide/review financial projections on cash budgets (i.e. monthly, annually).
Lead collaboration with group treasury and the GCFO, on bank facilities and ensure competitive terms for banking facilities
Manages treasury assets to achieve optimal sourcing, application and growth of funds
Manage the provision of adequate responses to bank queries for renewal of bank facilities.
Manage and oversee that the periodic reporting requirements to banks are met promptly.
Review the daily bank status reports and cash flow forecasts and initiate the necessary directives to optimize the use of cash across the company’s operations.
Hold periodic communication meetings with bank relationship managers and other senior officers to discuss issues of mutual interests.
Build constructive relationships with key banks stakeholders.
Establishes and maintains appropriate internal control safeguards.
Assists in the implementation of corporate governance procedures, and risk management.
External / Internal Audits:
Coordinate with the external (Statutory) auditors in planning effective/efficient audit programs.
Monitor execution of annual audits across the company to assure their timeliness and effectiveness.
Review draft external audit reports and provide the necessary commentaries for finalizing timely.
Ensure the implementation of noted exceptions in the external auditors management letter.
Requirements
Qualified Chartered Accountant
MBA or a Masters’ in related discipline is an added advantage
Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, 5 of which must have been in managerial positions.
3 + years’ experience in Leadership positions.
Proven evidence of regular engagement with the senior/executive management team and Finance partners.
Experience in Manufacturing and / or FMCG is an added advantage
Sound knowledge of the use of ERPs (SAP, Oracle etc)
