Overview
The 10 days course of instruction in Floorman Competent Person / Drillers Helper Training will consist of drilling programs, hands-on rig training, and industry safety programs. Students will be prepared in this course as competent persons for job readiness, it will establish the confidence and professional skills they will need to join the crew  after the course.
 
AIM
This course was established to train individuals who are looking to work in the drilling industry as Floormen.

COURSE OUTLINE AND MODE OF DELIVERY

PART 1: CLASSROOM – 5 DAYS

• Module 1 – Drilling Operations (Land and Offshore)
• Module 2 – Introduction to Well Control (IADC Wellcap)
• Module 3 - IADC HSE Rigpass
• Module 4 – Rig Floorman duties and communication.

PART 2:  FIELD PRACTICAL – 5AYS

• Rig Practical Exposure at a live drilling operation
• Candidates will work with drilling crew and be able to witness live drilling operations and merge both class and field knowledge.
• Learn Roustabout, Floorman duties and have good interaction with experienced floormen at the rig site as you prepare to get hired.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Floorman Competent Person is open to School Certificate Holders, Fresh graduates, Experienced graduates and others who are willing to join the oil drilling industry in a short time. All students must be 18years and above.

FLOORMAN JOB DESCRIPTION 

• Operating an offshore drilling rig or production platform safely and efficiently requires intense teamwork involving a wide range of workers.
• A floorman, also commonly referred to as a roughneck, operates a range of equipment involved in the drilling operations.
• He is commonly employed by either a petroleum production company or a drilling and well service contractor.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Good manual dexterity is necessary for a floorman to effectively operate rigging equipment. He needs to be aware of safety procedures and precautions related to the operation. Skills in reading and interpreting instructions are necessary, as well as oral communication abilities to work with team members. The ability to repair and maintain equipment, tools and pipes is required.

JOB DUTIES
A floorman is instrumental in all aspects of setting up, maintaining, disassembling and transporting oil rigs and service equipment. He is responsible for cleaning the area during and after the drilling operations. Moving and manipulating pipes and drill stems is a big part of his job.

WORK CONDITIONS
On the positive side, a floorman can normally find work in any country in the world. On a less positive note, work hours are commonly long, with 12-hour shifts and 12-hour breaks for periods of up to three weeks. The work is extremely physically demanding and requires a lot of bending, stretching and standing on high platforms and scaffolding.
The weather is often harsh and stormy in most countries. The rigging equipment is noisy, and the environment is typically dirty and damp. Getting to and from the rig requires helicopter travel. Floormen are usually required to live in offshore or onshore cabins with other oil rig workers.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Floormen are required to have good knowledge of drilling operations (both land and offshore ) to be competent, Well Control Certificate, Hand tools, IADC HSE Rigpass certificates.

SALARY AND ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Floormen have many chances to be promoted. Most are promoted from floorman to Assistant driller in around one year and then have opportunities to advance to driller, which commonly takes about five years. Drillers are frequently promoted to rig management positions.

1. Floorman Competent Person Certificate
2. Practical Rigsite Training Certificate
3. IADC HSE Rigpass
4. IADC Well control
