Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa) is a Non-governmental, Non-profit humanitarian / Developmental organization that started in 2014. We deliver assistance to affected populations before, during, and after crisis situations. GHIV Africa was founded to mitigate the health deficit in Africa and to provide all forms of assistance leading to improved quality of life.

The organization is equally poised to support the delivery of healthcare services at the doorsteps of every African village by bridging the gap between primary healthcare delivery and tertiary healthcare services through a robust referral system. We offer assistance in need to the most vulnerable population regardless of their religion, race, gender, and or political affiliation. We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Agric Extension Assistant Officer

Reports to: Head of Programs

Purpose

• The Agricultural Extension Officer will provide critical support to the nutrition project by disseminating agricultural knowledge, promoting best practices related to nutrition-focused agriculture, and bridging the gap between research findings and the practical application within local farming communities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Regularly visit farms to provide hands-on guidance and support.
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices and provide feedback.

Training and Capacity Building:

• Conduct training sessions for farmers on sustainable and nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices.
• Coordinate with local stakeholders, including farmer groups and community leaders, to ensure uptake of improved techniques.

 Research and Knowledge Transfer:

• Stay updated with the latest research on crops and farming practices that have a positive impact on nutrition.
• Disseminate research findings and technical information to farmers and stakeholders in an easily understandable manner.

Collaboration and Networking:

• Collaborate with other departments, institutions, and NGOs to strengthen the nutrition-agriculture nexus.
• Attend seminars, workshops, and conferences related to nutrition and agriculture to foster partnerships and stay updated on industry trends.

 Reporting and Documentation:    

• Prepare and submit regular progress reports detailing the activities conducted, challenges faced, and recommendations. 
• Document success stories and case studies to showcase the impact of the nutrition project on local communities

Competencies:

• Technical Knowledge: Proficient understanding of agricultural practices and their nutritional implications.
• Training of farmers as a facilitator is a merit
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively transfer knowledge.  
•  Interpersonal Skills: Ability to engage with and motivate farmers and community members. 
•  Problem Solving: Ability to diagnose challenges in the field and recommend appropriate solutions
•  Adaptability: Ability to work in diverse environments and adjust strategies based on the local context.
•  Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve project goals.

Field Work and Farmer Engagement
Educational Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Sociology, Anthropology, Nutrition, or a related field. A Master's degree will be an added advantage.
• At least 2-3 years of experience in agricultural extension services, with a focus on nutrition-sensitive agriculture preferred.
• Knowledge of local agricultural practices and challenges.
• Proficient in the use of agricultural and office software tools.
