Miva Open University is an education company building a new kind of university targeted at the African region. Miva is a Pan- African Distance e-Learning University that is built on a couple of beliefs: Firstly, we believe that the traditional brick and mortar approach to tertiary education is no longer a viable option in serving learners on the African continent. This approach will not provide the capacity and efficacy for the people of the region.

Overall Function

• Miva Open University is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and accomplished individual with a Ph.D. in Computing (Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Data Science) to join our esteemed faculty as an Associate Professor.
• The successful candidate will be expected tocontribute to the academic and research excellence of the university while also actively engaging in teaching, mentoring, and service activities.
• As an Associate Professor, you will play a key role in advancing the mission of the university and fostering the intellectual growth of our students.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching:

• Develop and deliver high-quality courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels in Computing.
• Implement innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance the learning experience.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to students, fostering their academic and professional development.

Research:

• Conduct cutting-edge research in Computing and actively contribute to the scholarly community.
• Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Collaborate with colleagues and students on research projects, fostering a culture of academic inquiry.

Advising and Mentoring:

• Advise undergraduate students, guiding them in their academic and career goals.
• Supervise graduate students' theses and dissertations.
• Provide mentorship and support to junior faculty members.

Service and Engagement:

• Engage in university and departmental service activities, including committee participation.
• Participate in outreach activities, promoting the university's mission and building community partnerships.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of academic programs and curricula.
• Assist in student recruitment and outreach activities.

Professional Development:

• Stay current with developments in the field and continuously improve teaching and research skills.
• Pursue external funding opportunities to support research endeavors.
• Develop and implement academic strategies and policies in line with industry standards and emerging trends in computing.
• Collaborate with industry partners and professional computing organizations to facilitate internships, networking opportunities, and industry collaborations.

Qualifications and Skills

• A Ph.D in a Computing (Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Data Science) field from an accredited institution.
• A strong record of scholarly research, including a publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with the ability to engage and inspire students.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to a collegial academic environment.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, research, and service.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to participate in university and departmental service activities.
• Proven experience in a leadership role within an academic institution, preferably in an online distance learning environment.
• A passion for online education and a commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for students.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Salary Range
N750,000 - N1,000,000 / month.
