Miva Open University is an education company building a new kind of university targeted at the African region. Miva is a Pan- African Distance e-Learning University that is built on a couple of beliefs: Firstly, we believe that the traditional brick and mortar approach to tertiary education is no longer a viable option in serving learners on the African continent. This approach will not provide the capacity and efficacy for the people of the region.

Overall Function

• The Department of Accounting at Miva Open University invites applications for the position of Senior Lecturer.
• The successful candidate will have a strong background in Accounting, hold a Ph.D. in the relevant field, and be passionate about teaching and mentoring students.
• This is a full-time faculty position with a primary focus on undergraduate education.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching:

• Develop and deliver undergraduate courses in Accounting.
• Create engaging and innovative teaching materials, including lectures, assignments, and assessments.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Community Development:

• Contribute to the development and enhancement of the Accounting curriculum, ensuring alignment with industry trends and best practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues to create new courses and update existing ones to reflect emerging technologies and research.

Research and Scholarship:

• Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations, in areas related to Accounting.
• Encourage and support undergraduate student research and projects.

Academic Advising:

• Advise and mentor undergraduate students on academic and career-related matters.
• Assist students in developing educational and career plans.

Service and Committee Work:

• Participate actively in departmental meetings, committees, and other service-related activities.
• Contribute to the academic and professional community through university service and outreach.
• Assist in student recruitment and outreach activities.

Qualifications and Skills

• A Ph.D. in Accounting or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Strong commitment to undergraduate education and a passion for teaching.
• Proven teaching experience in accounting courses at the undergraduate level.
• A record of scholarly activity, which may include publications, conference presentations, or equivalent.
• Experience with online and blended learning platforms.
• Familiarity with industry standards and trends in Accounting.
• Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and assessment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students in a diverse academic environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Salary Range
N750,000 - N1,000,000 / month
