Description
The key purposeas the Brewing Engineer is to identify and deliver initiatives to deliver step change performance improvement and process stability in order to realise true process capability.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Asset Care:
Partake in the development of the asset care plan for the brewing, contributing suggestions and providing expert advice.
Implement the asset care plan for the brewing, ensuring the engineering team have the required competencies.
Ensure that asset care goals are incorporated into engineering team and individual goals.
Audit compliance to the asset care program by both the engineering team and shift based teams.
Ensure that asset care competencies are developed in the engineering team.
Where training needs have been identified, through the training specialist, ensure these are addressed.
Exercise budgetary controls over the asset care requirements of brewing.
Plant Reliability:
Responsible for the overall reliability and uptime of brewing plant.
Lead the engineering team in the provision of asset care and engineering support to the shift-based production teams.
Verifies that engineering team are carrying out routine and planned maintenance and validates quality of work.
Verifies that the maintenance systems are working properly, and that data integrity and information accuracy maintained.
Reviews plant reliability to ensure equipment is operating optimally and to identify problems or opportunities timeously.
Takes part in maintenance problem solving and ensure that engineering team is applying the correct problem-solving techniques.
Plant Optimisation:
Takes part in regional and central office plant optimisation trials, providing advice, assistance and guidance where required.
Evaluates impact of new plant and equipment and signs off all plant modifications and changes.
Analyses plant performance data to identify opportunities for improvement to plant performance, and initiates opportunity evaluation.
Analyses plant failure modes and investigate causes for repeat failures to identify and correct root causes.
Takes part in evaluating continuous improvement opportunities identified by the production teams or engineering support.
Ensures that continuous improvement is built into engineering team goals and forms part of regular goal review sessions.
Team Leadership:
Lead the engineering team in a manner that engenders ownership, empowerment and team interaction.
Lead the development of engineering team goals and ensure these are communicated and understood by team members.
Conducts regular engineering team goal review session and conduct regular one-on-one and performance reviews.
Ensure training need analyses are conducted and training plans developed for team members.
Ensure appropriate competencies are developed in the team, and ensure cross skilling occurs within the engineering team.
Safety and Housekeeping:
Ensure that the engineering team apply proper safety and housekeeping procedures and adhere to all legal requirement when carrying out their tasks.
Ensure implementation of the appropriate SAB and legislative policies (such as OSH act) on safety and housekeeping.
Ensure that safety and housekeeping receive appropriate focus through regular checks and safety audits.
Where unsafe work practices have been identified, the Brewing Engineer is responsible for correcting this.
Minimum Requirements
B.Sc in Engineering or equivalent tertiary education.
3-5 years as a Section Engineer ideally in an FMCG company.
Experience with modern asset management systems is essential.
Previous exposure in brewing or similar process.
Ability to ensure that all equipment and resources are available for an effective maintenance system.
Ability to manage and ensure an effective spares stock levels and to ensure that costs are within budget.
Ability to ensure that principles of asset care management are implemented within brewing department.
Ability to ensure that plant start-ups and shutdowns are done safely and properly.
Knowledge of the OH&S Act and NOSA standards.
Ability to effect good HR processes to ensure that people are disciplined, motivated, developed and properly managed to
ensure effective team performance.
Government Certificate of Competence would be an advantage.
