Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Lagos
Description
We are looking for a Senior accountant to join our Finance team in Nigeria to undertake the month-end closing process, meet the reporting deadlines and timings, and ensure we are in compliance with HQ internal and external policies as well as with the local tax regulations and requirements.
You will work closely with our Regional and HQ finance teams to manage financial processes, prepare reports, and contribute to the overall success of our organization.
The Journey
Lead and completed the month-end closing process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
Maintain paperwork for the monthly accruals as required as a part of the monthly financial reporting process
Maintain company’s accounting books according to the statutory regulations
Ensure accurate and timely financial statements and reports for management
Responsible for complying with local requirements according to tax legislation
Collaborate with external auditors during financial audits
Review income statement and balance sheet discrepancies and escalate to management if necessary
Conducts General Audit of all Accounting Ledgers on a regular basis
Control and confirm all the invoices received and issued through the invoicing platform
Ensure all accounting/financial Policies and Procedures are adopted in line with prevailing legislation
Ensure that all VAT accounts reflect the prevailing business nature
Comply with GAAP principles during the month-end closing reporting
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance financial efficiency and controls
Actively collaborate with your colleagues and learn from each other in a supportive environment that allows you to grow, develop and make a difference
Work closely with the Regional and HQ finance teams during the month-end closing process and within different finance projects
Adapt quickly to changes in company policy, tax regulations and legislation
Check all original documents (contracts, acts, VAT declarations, etc.) for the company's interest
What You Will Bring to the Ride
Bachelor's Degree from related departments (Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, etc...).
CPA certification is a plus
5+ years of applicable work experience in Accounting or similar role for multinational companies
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end closing process preparation
In-depth knowledge of Nigerian accounting standards and tax regulations
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Good understanding and experience of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP/IFRS)
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel/Google Sheet
Fluent in English with the ability to understand and communicate clearly and effectively (both written and oral)
Strong analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good organization & planning skills
Experience using Microsoft Dynamics / Navision or other general ledger packages is a plus
