We enable payments online in local African currencies and can handle the last-mile logistics for our retail partners too. Statistically, Africa is the future, so we believe consumers on the continent should have the same frictionless access to the global e-commerce economy as consumers in the West.

Klasha was founded in Lagos, Nigeria in 2018 and is backed by Techstars, Ginco Investments and a group of notable angel investors. Klasha is run by 20-somethings from five nationalities that speak six different languages between them. Klasha has offices in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lagos, Nigeria.

About the Role

• As a Legal and Compliance Associate at Klasha, your role is pivotal in ensuring strict adherence to all legal and compliance standards across our operations.
• Your responsibilities will involve meticulously navigating and integrating legal and regulatory frameworks within the fabric of our daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to relevant laws and regulations across all departments, mitigating potential risks and ensuring full compliance.
• Policy Development and Implementation: Lead the development and implementation of compliance policies, ensuring alignment with changing legal landscapes.
• Territory Expansion Compliance: Strategize and ensure compliance efforts for new territory expansion, conducting thorough assessments to ensure conformity with local regulations and laws.
• Partnership Compliance: Oversee compliance aspects in strategic partnerships and alliances, ensuring they support Klasha's growth within legal parameters.
• Legal Reporting and Documentation: Collaborate with various teams to develop and maintain robust reporting processes that align with legal and regulatory requirements.
• Training and Awareness Programs: Conduct training programs to ensure the organization is well-informed and aligned with legal and compliance standards.
• Legal Advisory Support: Offer legal guidance and support in contract reviews, negotiations, and other legal matters essential to the business.
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential areas of risk and strategize effective mitigation measures.

Qualifications

• Legal Background: Bachelor's Degree in Law or a relevant field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
• Relevant Experience: 3+ years in legal and compliance roles within technology, fintech, or related industries.
• Compliance Expertise: Demonstrated experience in interpreting and implementing legal and regulatory requirements in day-to-day operations.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex legal information and draw actionable insights.
• Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
