The Nutrition Officer will be based in Borno State and will support implementation of Nutrition component under the IHA project in Borno State
The Nutrition Officer should have outstanding comprehension of the purpose and status of the project; ensure that there is accountability, and the program goals are met.
Clear and timely communications and information sharing with the Field Assistants and Program Manager is required.
Responsibilities
The Nutrition Officer will have the following responsibilities:
Conduct Simple Rapid Assessment (SRA) of all mothers with Children under 59 months that attend the OTP in the communities of implementation.
Plan and organize OTP sites in liaison with SCI Nutrition Team
Support the implementation of CMAM activities in the communities and outreach sites
Provide IYCF counselling to mothers on good maternal nutrition during pregnancy and lactation.
Work closely with other partners implementing SC for proper referral and monitoring of beneficiaries at SC level
Work closely with partners and their staff to ensure that project activities are implemented on time effectively and efficiently
Ensure comprehensive health checks and correct clinical diagnosis at the time of assessment according to the national protocol
Ensure timely identification of cases, complications, non-responders, and referrals to SC
Ensure correctness, consistency, and completeness of the information in the Nutrition Registry
Liaising with Nutrition Assistants and community volunteers to provide effective follow-up of all cases: particularly tracing of children who are absent from the program, defaulting or not gaining weight
Provide weekly and monthly CMAM report to the EYN coordinator and SCI Nutrition focal person
Ensure adequate triage; new arrivals are a priority
Ensure cases not meeting admission criteria return home as early as possible and understand why their child is not admitted
Supervise the activities of the OTP team at the distribution point
Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by teams, including admission, discharge, and transfer
Liaise with community mobilizer(s) to ensure comprehensive community outreach and mobilization, health education and treatment. Ensure that all messages to caregivers, community groups, leaders, and authorities are consistent and fully understood.
Attend regular nutrition meetings and assist in any other tasks or duties assigned
Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian reliefs are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross guidelines
Qualifications
B.Sc. in Health / Public Health / Nutrition / or its equivalent
At least 3 years experience in Nutrition/developmental work
Experience of emergency nutrition work (preferably CMAM) and implementation of feeding programs, including monitoring and evaluation
Experience in conducting nutrition assessments and an understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems
Skills:
Proven capacity of management, leadership, and teamwork
The ability to multitask.
Adequate problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational skills.
Effective communication skills in English and Hausa
Excellent knowledge of Nigerian humanitarian aid and development context
Excellent reporting skills
Excellent communication, diplomatic skills, and writing skills
Computer proficiency (word, excel and internet)
Good analytical skills, at ease with figures and data.
