Job Title: Resident School Nurse

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Medical Care:

• Cooperate with the school management, members of the staff, parents and other health professionals to ensure a healthy school climate and to minimize absence due to illness.
• Provide emergency care in case of sudden illness and administers first-aid in case of injury to students or staff according to established policies and procedures.
• Help prevent and control communicable disease through lectures, inspections, exclusion and re-admission of students and staff in keeping with state and local health regulations and school policies.
• Maintains up-to-date health records on all students.
• Report suspicious behaviours of students or staff influenced by alcohol or harmful substances to the principal for immediate examination.
• Administers prescribed medication to students in accordance with acceptable medical practices and the school policy.
• Promote preventive health by designing and executing appropriate health and hygiene awareness talks and activities for students and the College community. This includes observance of relevant international health days
• Assists with the preparation and management of the school's health budget.
• Keep proper records on the usage of drugs.
• Ensure that the sick bay is sufficiently equipped to provide the necessary emergency health services
• Assists in the development of policies and procedures for comprehensive health education and services.
• Prepare and submit weekly reports on the health and sick bay activities.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

• Promote a healthy and safe school environment through frequent inspection, reporting observations, and following up for corrections/resolution.
• Promote food health and hygiene by frequently inspecting the state of the kitchen, the handling of food in preparation and service, reporting on same, and following up for corrections/resolution.
• Confer with and advise students, parents, and staff members on matters pertaining to the health and safety.
• Advise on the healthiness and nutritional balance of food prepared.
• Prepare health and safety reports as required by law and/or requested by the principal.
• Coordinate creation and implementation of Emergency Action Plan and disaster Preparedness Plans.

Person Specification

• A Nursing qualification.
• 5 - 10 years work experience.
• Excellent customer service
• Excellent Communication Skills
• Demonstration of Respect, Empathy and High Emotional Intelligence
• An understanding of Health and Safety guidelines
• Hostel Duties Experience
• A willingness to support and contribute to general improvements of the school.
