Miva Open University is an education company building a new kind of university targeted at the African region. Miva is a Pan- African Distance e-Learning University that is built on a couple of beliefs: Firstly, we believe that the traditional brick and mortar approach to tertiary education is no longer a viable option in serving learners on the African continent. This approach will not provide the capacity and efficacy for the people of the region.

Job Title: Head of Department - Nursing

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Overall Function

• As the Head of Department for Nursing at Miva Open University, you will lead and oversee the Nursing department.
• You will be responsible for providing strategic direction, managing academic programs, and fostering a dynamic learning environment.
• The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of Nursing principles, and a passion for delivering high-quality online education.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership to the Nursing department, ensuring alignment with the university's mission and goals.
• Develop and implement academic strategies and policies in line with industry standards and emerging trends in Nursing.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of high-quality online Nursing courses and programs.
• Manage and mentor a team of Nursing faculty members, promoting excellence in teaching, research, and curriculum development.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure interdisciplinary integration and program coordination.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students, promoting their academic success and professional growth.
• Stay updated with advancements in the field of Nursing and incorporate relevant topics into the curriculum.
• Lead accreditation efforts and ensure compliance with relevant educational regulations and standards.
• Engage in ongoing assessment and evaluation of departmental programs to drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with industry partners and business organizations to facilitate internships, networking opportunities, and industry collaborations.
• Participate in recruitment efforts to attract and retain talented faculty members.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D in Nursing or a related field.
• University teaching experience, with a minimum rank of Senior Lecturer.
• Proven experience in a leadership role within an academic institution, preferably in an online distance learning environment.
• Extensive knowledge and expertise in Nursing principles, practices, and theories.
• Strong understanding of curriculum development and instructional methodologies in Nursing education.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and mentor faculty members, promoting excellence in teaching and research.
• Familiarity with online learning platforms, instructional technologies, and learning management systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• A passion for online education and a commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for students.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
