The Role

• We are seeking an experienced and dynamic seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate, Seller Risk Strategist to join our dynamic team.
• The ideal candidate will play a critical role in safeguarding our platform against fraudulent activities and ensuring the integrity of our marketplace.
• Leveraging their expertise in risk assessment and mitigation strategies, they will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and mitigating risks associated with sellers on our platform.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with key stakeholders (e.g. Product Managers, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, etc.) to evaluate at which points were bad actors introduced into Flutterwave’s ecosystem and work to develop policies and procedures to remediate those gaps. 
• Assist in the development and implementation of robust risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate seller-related risks.
• Use data driven approaches to developing strategies for identification of underperforming merchants and understanding the root causes of such performance. 
• Work with the SMB sales and Account Management teams to establish and resolve remediation plans for merchants with elevated chargebacks or reported fraud. 
• Provide insights and recommendations to senior management on risk exposure, trends, and potential areas for improvement.
• Conduct research, analyze data and put forth recommendations and proposals that drive decisions on product, risk management and partnerships with external parties.   
• Develop methodologies for risk mitigation of SMB merchants.
• Act as a subject matter expert on seller risk management, providing guidance and training to junior team members as needed.

Required Competency and Skillset to be a Waver

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Proven 4+ years of experience in risk management, fraud detection, or related roles within the fintech industry, preferably at a card network, an acquiring bank or related payments technology company. 
• Strong project management experience.
• Deep understanding of risk and fraud both for card and non-card transactions.
• Experience analyzing merchant processing performance data.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and identify trends or patterns indicative of risk.
• Solutions based mindset when working cross-functionally across various stakeholders.
• Experience negotiating with product, engineering, sales and legal teams to ensure alignment.
• Proficiency in relevant software and analytical tools, such as Excel, SQL, and data visualization platforms.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Risk Manager) are a plus.
