Position Overview

• As a typesetter at Straight Gate Publishers Limited, your role involves combining design and technical skills to create visually appealing and reader-friendly documents, ensuring that the final product adheres to the publisher's standards and specifications.

Job Duties

• Skillfully format and arrange text to enhance readability, making adjustments to font styles, sizes, and spacing as needed.
• Create visually captivating page designs for diverse publications including books, magazines, and digital content, ensuring seamless integration of suitable fonts that complement the material, maintain uniformity, and adhere to the publisher's branding guidelines.
• Seamlessly integrate images, graphics, and illustrations into the content, ensuring they enhance the overall design and reader experience.
• Conduct thorough proofreading to identify and rectify any typographical errors or formatting issues, ensuring the highest level of accuracy.
• Ensure all publications follow the publisher's style guidelines, maintaining consistency in headers, footers, margins, and other design elements.
• Utilize typesetting software and desktop publishing tools (e.g., CorelDraw) to execute layout and formatting tasks efficiently.
• Collaborate with editors, graphic designers, authors, and other team members to ensure a seamless integration of text and visual elements.

Job Requirements

• Proficiency in the use of CorelDraw software for creating and editing illustrations, graphics, and layout elements in the book design process.
• Ability to accurately format and lay out text, ensuring proper font usage, line spacing, margins, and other typographic considerations.
• Ability to type Yoruba language and a good understanding of diacritics and special characters.
• At least three years experience in a similar role
• Attention to detail, including the ability to spot and correct typographical errors, formatting inconsistencies, and layout issues.
• Understanding typography principles and selecting appropriate fonts for different book genres and styles is crucial.
• Proficiency in using relevant computer software and tools for typesetting and layout work is a must.
• Ability to work efficiently, meet deadlines, and manage their time effectively to keep production schedules on track.
• Familiarity with the book publishing process, from manuscript to printed book, is beneficial. This includes an understanding of prepress, printing, and binding
• Prior experience in a publishing firm, especially in a typesetting role, is an added advantage.
• Familiarity with Adobe InDesign is also added advantage.
