The Nigerian Institute of Medical Research is the nation's foremost Institute of medical research, established with Act No. 5 of 1977, which was later repealed and replaced by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure Act of 1992. With the headquarters located in Lagos, its outstations are in Maiduguri, Asaba and Kainji. The Institute's vision is to be an institution of excellence in basic, applied and operational research for the promotion of National Health and Development in Nigeria. Its mission is to conduct research into diseases of public health importance in Nigeria and develop structures for the dissemination of research findings while providing the enabling environment and facilities for health research and training in cooperation with the Federal and State Ministries of Health and in collaboration with universities, allied institutions and organized private sector nationally and internationally.

Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Specialist

Description
We are seeking five (5) truly outstanding Postdoctoral Researcher with relevant research experience in the following fields:
Medical Diagnostics
Bioinformatics (primer and probe designs, genome mapping, prediction of protein structure, etc.)
Serology assays for emerging and re-emerging diseases Molecular diagnostics
Microbiology (Molecular characterisation of bacteria isolates)
Vaccinology
Cell and tissue culture
Molecular cloning
Immunobiology
Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct cutting-edge research in any of the areas identified above
Participate in grant writing
Supervise students
Contribute to other related research activities
Eligibility Requirements
PhD in relevant Biomedical Sciences obtained in the last five (5) years at the time of application
Demonstrable experience through published articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Good writing and presentation skills.
Terms and Conditions
This is a two-year full-time position, renewable based on excellent performance including external grant(s) acquisition.
Candidates must complete the two-year term, failure to comply will attract penalty.
Positions will be awarded on a competitive peer-reviewed basis.
Successful candidates must abide by the Institute's policies and codes of conduct.
The appointment does not come with accommodation.
Successful candidates are expected to submit quarterly and final reports.
They are also required to present their research findings at the Institute's annual scientific conference and publish their work in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
Remuneration
The position will attract an annual remuneration of five million Naira (N5,000,000)
Each proposed research will be funded to a maximum of fifty million Naira (N50,000,000) within the two-year period.
Successful candidates will have opportunity for exchange training program with international organisations.
