Job Title: Chief Engineer

Location: Lagos

Overview

• A market leader in fruit juices, fruit drinks, yoghurts and snacks in Nigeria is looking to recruit for the role of a Chief Engineer.
• The primary focus is to provide proactive and optimal engineering support to meet current and future business needs while creating/driving a culture of continuous improvement; driving and managing the entire Engineering & Power budget, leading the engineering and maintenance team, and partnering with cross-functional teams to achieve efficiency and sustainable continuous improvement in the company's manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Articulate and drive the budget of CAPEX for the entire Engineering in line with the aligned timelines & budget.
• Formulate strategies, policies, and procedures of maintenance planning activities across the plant and ensure it’s effectiveness through adherence checks against schedule to maximize equipment availability.
• Lead and organize the engineering activities to ensure compliance with current legislation and professional, ethical and HSE standards.
• Ensure breakdowns are duly attended, articulating the RCA & CAPA to prevent re-occurrence.
• Drive the planning, order and control usage of materials and spare parts to ensure smooth operation.
• Develop and coordinate performance plans and budget and establish objectives in line with the operations target and budget.
• Work with the entire Manufacturing team in the development and implementation of the value engineering and continuous improvement strategies and processes to ensure quality consistency and efficiency in all engineering and maintenance activities.
• Develop the annual engineering and maintenance plan, working with key stakeholders and constantly refine the company’s maintenance practices optimizing value, ensure efficiency and conform to regulatory standards.
• Ensure an effective Engineering spare management through Safety stock reviews & proactive ordering on time.
• Ensure engineering and maintenance activities are carried out in line with GMP and HSE standards by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Cost-effectively manage external contractors - seek to challenge their costs and performance to ensure cost-effective yet quality service.
• Review maintenance performance through daily, weekly & monthly meetings with team members & relevant stakeholders
• Ensure strict adherence to standardize procedures in all maintenance and engineering activities, driving effectiveness and efficiency.
• Effectively managing the repair & maintenance budget whilst devising strategies to drive actual costs against allotted budget.
• Ensure all required regulatory approval and licenses for engineering equipment and processes are obtained and renewed when due.
• Manage and maintain relationship with all vendors and contractors to ensure optimum service delivery.
• Keep abreast of engineering continuous improvement trends/updates and make appropriate recommendations.
• Initiate ideation process within the team to generate value addition projects on reliability, process, efficiency & safety improvements & make plans for implementation.
• Develop reporting formats as well as review and control all maintenance/operations.
• Drive knowledge transfer within associates and team to enhance their competence.

Education / Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Requirements
Education/Knowledge:

• B.Sc. or HND in Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or other related fields as may be specified in company policy.

Working Experience:

• Minimum of 10-15 years of experience working in large manufacturing facility.
• Added advantage: Master’s degree in related fields will be an added advantage.
