Job Description

• As the Traffic Officer, you will be responsible for coordinating vessel traffic within our port facilities, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vessels, vehicles, and personnel.
• Your role will be critical in optimizing traffic flow, minimizing congestion, and maintaining compliance with port regulations and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor vessel movements and port activities.
• Coordinate vessel arrivals, departures, and berthing assignments in collaboration with port authorities, terminal operators, and vessel captains.
• Communicate with vessel captains, pilots, and tug operators to provide guidance and assistance in navigating port waters and berthing areas.
• Manage vessel traffic within port limits, including directing vessel movements, issuing instructions, and enforcing speed and maneuvering restrictions.
• Coordinate with terminal security personnel to ensure compliance with security protocols and access control procedures for vessels and personnel.
• Respond to emergencies, incidents, and safety hazards within the terminalarea, implementing appropriate measures to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
• Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, traffic incidents, and communication logs, documenting relevant information for reporting and analysis.
• Provide assistance and guidance to port users, including vessel operators, truck drivers, and shore personnel, regarding port procedures, regulations, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• SSCE or equivalent; additional training or certification in maritime operations or traffic management (preferred).
• Proven experience in vessel traffic management, port operations, or a related field, with a strong understanding of maritime regulations and safety procedures.
• Familiarity with radar systems, AIS technology, and other traffic monitoring tools used in maritime environments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders, including vessel captains, port authorities, and security personnel.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and make decisions under pressure.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in recording and reporting traffic-related data and incidents.
• Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and respond to emergencies outside of regular hours.
• Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Salary
N70,000 - N90,000 / month.
