Job Title: Aviation Safety Manager

About the Job

• The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and implementing effective safety measures to enhance the overall safety performance of our organization.
• He/She will work closely with various stakeholders to assess risks, develop safety protocols, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.
• The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of NCAA and ICAO aviation safety rules, regulations, and procedures, with a sound knowledge of JARUS SORA along with relevant certifications and ISO audit compliance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with NCAA and ICAO aviation safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's safety management system (SMS) in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Supports operational departments and managers on the use of Safety Management processes (e.g., assisting operational personnel in conducting risk assessments according to a common risk assessment methodology and assigning effective, operationally relevant controls).
• Coaching and training staff in the use of Safety Management tools and methodologies as described in the SMS manual (or equivalent).
• Conduct safety assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and assess the effectiveness of existing safety measures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinate safety training and awareness programs for employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Monitor and analyze safety data, trends, and performance indicators to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance safety performance.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry organizations, and other stakeholders to stay updated on relevant safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Prepare reports and documentation for regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections.
• Collaborate with internal departments, including operations, maintenance, and training, to ensure that safety requirements are integrated into all aspects of the company's operations.
• Foster a positive safety culture throughout the organization; includes promoting an open reporting culture and ensuring that punitive actions are not taken against individuals making voluntary or mandatory safety reports.
• Monitors how the just culture policy is applied, and reports to the Accountable Executive when issues are identified.
• Ensure that the reporting system is effective and that occurrences have been timely and properly analyzed; in particular, ensuring that identified root cause(s) of incidents, accidents, and failures within the system are relevant and mitigated accordingly to prevent recurrence.
• Encourage operational departments and/or individuals to take ownership of safety issues and risks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field.
• M.Sc./MBA Degree is an added advantage.
• Professional certification in aviation safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, IS-BAO) is required.
• Certification and sound knowledge in JARUS SORA would be an added advantage.
