Job Description
We are looking to hire an experienced Senior Accountant to handle the finances of the organization.
The Senior Accountant will oversee and manage the association's accounting and financial systems, ensuring compliance with legal and company policies while driving financial planning and risk management.
They will prepare financial reports, supervise financial personnel, and maintain accurate inventory and audit records, providing input to the Board on the organization's financial health.
Responsibilities
Direct the operations of the accounting and financial systems of the association.
Manage vendor relationships and transactions.
Prepare reliable current and financial forecasting reports.
Ensure compliance with the law and company’s policies.
Drive the company’s financial planning.
Perform risk management by analyzing the organization’s liabilities.
Prepare and analyze reports on the organizations inventory.
Ensure an independent audit is performed at least once per year, and ensure to comply with the recommendations and a copy of the report and compliance measures are forwarded to A/OPR/CR.
Preparation of annual budget and ensuring adherence.
Supervise other financial personnel and review work to ensure proper posting and control of accounting records.
Analyze the accounting procedures at periodic intervals to determine efficiency and adherence to the financial controls in effect, proposing changes or improvements in operations when necessary.
Audit the association's bills and prepare documentation for payment. Maintain the General Ledger and entries.
Review inventory records for accuracy, carry out monthly inventories, and review the inventory taken by others. Maintain and control fixed assets and inventories.
Oversee all banking procedures, which include petty cash and fund accounts, maintain the check register, prepare the checks for payment of all association obligations and payroll administration.
Ensure that the association is in compliance with its own procurement policy and good standard procurement procedures.
Excellent knowledge of Nigeria’s financial regulations and procedures.
Attend meetings of the Board of Directors and submit monthly financial reports and provide input to the Board on the financial stability and health of the organization.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a senior accountant or relevant senior role.
In depth knowledge of corporate financial laws and risk management practices
Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial / accounting management software (e.g.QuickBooks)
Ability to strategize and solve problems
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Excellent communication and people skills
An analytical mind, comfortable with numbers
ACCA or ICAN is a strong advantage
B.Sc / BA in Accounting / Finance or relevant field; MSc/MBA is a plus.
Proven ability to calculate, post and manage financial books and records.
Strong attention to details and good financial analysis skills.
