Job Title: Associate Legal Officer

Core Responsibilities and Key Result Areas
Legal Compliance and Support:
Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and corporate policies across all business operations.
Support legal research initiatives to provide insights that inform business strategies and operational decisions.
Contract Support:
Aid in the drafting, reviewing, and negotiation of contracts, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and legal standards under the guidance of senior legal staff.
Actively monitor contract compliance and performance, facilitating timely resolution of disputes to uphold contractual obligations and protect the company’s interests.
Litigation Assistance:
Assist in managing litigation processes, including the preparation and organization of necessary documentation and case files.
Liaise effectively with external legal counsel, ensuring smooth communication and preparation of essential documents to support ongoing litigation matters.
Corporate Governance Support:
Support the development and implementation of corporate governance policies and practices to ensure compliance and ethical conduct within the organization.
Assist in the preparation for corporate meetings, including the creation of agendas, minutes, and maintaining accurate records of corporate actions and decisions.
Policy Development and Training:
Contribute to the formulation and implementation of company policies, ensuring they reflect legal requirements and best practices.
Participate in developing and delivering training sessions on legal compliance and best practices to enhance staff awareness and adherence to legal standards.
Risk Management Support:
Identify potential legal risks associated with business operations and assist in formulating effective mitigation strategies to minimize exposure.
Assist in the preparation of regular legal risk assessment reports for management, providing insights and recommendations for proactive risk management.
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in law (LL. B) or related field.
Professional Requirements:
Admission to practice law in Nigeria.
Relevant certifications in corporate law or compliance preferred.
Experience Requirements
Must have 2 - 5 years of legal experience, preferably in corporate or commercial law.
Proven track record of managing legal issues in the shipping or logistics industry.
Knowledge Requirements
Understanding of Nigerian corporate law, contract law, and regulatory frameworks.
Familiarity with shipping and logistics regulations and compliance requirements.
Skill Requirement:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and present effectively.
Strong analytical and research skills to interpret complex legal issues.
