Marketing & Communications Lead at Girl Effect

Posted on Wed 24th Jul, 2024 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (0 comments)

Girl Effect is an international non-profit that creates media that girls want, trust, and need. From chatbots and chat shows to TV dramas and tech, our content helps adolescent girls in Africa and Asia make choices and changes in their lives. We create safe spaces for girls to share facts and answer questions about health, nutrition, education, and relationships, empowering them with the skills to negotiate and redefine what is possible "for a girl."

Our reach is 50 million and counting, and we leverage technology to reach girls at scale, so every girl can choose to be in control of her body, health, learning, and livelihood. When a girl unlocks her power to make different choices that change her life, it inspires others to do so, too. She starts a ripple effect that impacts her family, community, and country. That’s the Girl Effect.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Marketing & Communications Lead

Location: Nigeria

Context of the Role

  • As the Marketing and Communications Lead, you will be responsible for delivering marketing and communication activities for Girl Effect - internally and externally - in line with the strategic direction outlined by the Head of Growth.
  • The remit of the Marketing and Communications (MarComms) team is to drive engagement with the Girl Effect brand to inspire and attract support, partnerships, and funding for the organization.
  • As Girl Effect continues to scale, the Marketing and Communications team will be critical in developing and implementing mission-aligned communications strategies, working closely with the Girl Effect CEO’s Office and Development team.

What You'll Do
As Marketing & Communications Lead, this will be a hands-on role. You will:

  • Lead day-to-day supervision of MarComms team - initially managing at least one direct report, with potential to increase to three once established in the role, and  supporting in-country MarComms leads.
  • Strengthen and implement a strategic brand communications and marketing strategy for the organization that reaches our audiences and supports our fundraising goals.
  • Develop and implement an integrated internal communications strategy to promote a high-impact, globally connected culture.
  • Support the Marketing and Communications team in upskilling our staff globally to ensure efficient and effective communication globally and in the countries where we operate.
  • Ensure that marketing and communications for all existing programs and funders, including across social media, reports, and thank yous, is completed with excellence and on time.
  • Supervise and oversee alignment of all Marketing and Communications functions across Girl Effect’s and countries to ensure best practices and mitigate against risk.
  • Manage the reputation of the organization, working with the Head of Growth and other members of Girl Effect’s leadership to promote the organization where strategic and mitigate against risk.
  • Strengthen and implement an effective engagement plan for our CEO including press, events, and more - working closely with the CEO’s Office and the Development team.
  • Monitor the impact of government, policy, and the external environment on Girl Effect and our ability to operate in the countries we work.
  • May be required to travel internationally on occasion with prior notice (2-10%).
  • This list should not be considered exhaustive; the post holder will be expected to deliver other duties relevant and appropriate to this position.

Who You Are

  • Proven Communications Leader Who Does The Work: We’re not looking for a leader who outsources the work to an agency, we want a leader who loves building the tools and doing the work.
  • You have a minimum of 8 to 10 years of demonstrated success in corporate or non-profit communications, with a track record of leading the development and execution of impactful communications strategies, both in-house or agency-side.
  • You're adept at managing budgets, global teams, and effectively steering external vendors.
  • You Easily Turn Complexity into Clarity: You’re an extraordinary communicator and possess a unique ability to distill complex challenges into clear, compelling communications strategies that deliver impactful messages and drive desired outcomes.
  • Systems & Tech Champion: You're a passionate advocate for leveraging technology to streamline workflows and maximize team efficiency. You're not just a fan of tools like Slack, Asana, and Salesforce, but a power user and champion for their strategic implementation to keep your team organized, on time, and operating at peak performance.
  • Industry Expertise: Your experience spans marketing and communication activities within international development, technology, media, or the non-profit sector. You possess in-depth knowledge of media relations and press engagement.
  • Hybrid Communicator & Marketer: You thrive in a dynamic environment, seamlessly blending internal and external communications, with proven experience in integrated marketing and communications roles.
  • Team-Oriented Mentor: You're a passionate team player who excels at building and nurturing high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative spirit and empowering your team members to reach their full potential.
  • Global Experience and Mission Aligned: You possess a deep understanding and appreciation of working across countries, time zones, and cultures. You have demonstrable experience in navigating cultural nuances and fostering a spirit of inclusion and respect in diverse teams. Your global perspective allows you to tailor communication strategies for international audiences and ensure seamless collaboration across borders. You're also deeply committed to empowering adolescent girls and young women, and you resonate with Girl Effect's mission and values.

Organization Accountabilities:

  • Lead by example as a role model for Girl Effect’s values and professional standards.
  • Support the delivery of organizational and team goals.
  • Seek continuous improvement within your own areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain full awareness of and active compliance with Girl Effect’s policies and procedures relevant to your own responsibilities and to broader policies including (but not limited to) equality, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection.

What Else You Should Know

  • As we continue to scale and grow - we are hugely ambitious for our future, and we are looking for people who are driven to change the world for girls.
  • Our teams are a diverse mix across sectors (non-profit and commercial) and specialisms (from Brand and Creative through to Gender and Insight). You’ll learn and grow in an environment that will challenge you to think and work with a fresh perspective. In turn, you can expect to work somewhere where you will be stretched and developed in your role, a place where you can build your career and work with talented, engaged people committed to our cause.
  • Girl Effect is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity, or expression. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
  • We are committed to building an organization that is increasingly representative of the communities that we serve. To this end, due regard will be paid to recruiting candidates with diverse professional, academic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • This is a fulltime remote role and is being recruited for on a 24 months contract basis.
  • This is a global role and is available only to individuals located in Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, or the United Kingdom.
