Federal Civil Service Recruitment Test: Matters Arising

Posted on Fri 28th Sep, 2012 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (85 comments)

Only few people are aware that the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) conducted nationwide employment test last Saturday (22nd Sept. 2012) for recruitment into the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, Labour & Productively.  Many people missed it due to lack of awareness and some due to inconveniences and difficulties from the way and manner in which FCSC released the shortlistment.  The recruitment started around May 2012 when  FCSC invited applications for vacancies in the above-mentioned ministries.  Onyiorah Paschal wrote us from the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja, to discuss the issue. Copied from: hotnigerianjobs.com-

For those of you who don't know if they applied for the positions or not should click below to view the vacancies.

Federal Civil Service Commission - FCSC Recruitment 2012

Below is the post sent to us by Pascal.

The recently held Federal Government recruitment test for the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, Labour and Productively was not only farcical but also outrageous and antithetical to the concept of One Nigeria, which we always like to profess. Apart from the badly organised manner of pasting the list of shortlisted candidates for the test, which made the whole thing difficult, if not impossible, for thousands of applicants to access their names through the lists on the board, there was nothing in the entire exercise to show that those in authority really appreciated the plight of the unemployed Nigerians. Copied from: www.hotnigerianjobs.com

Certainly, it boggles one’s mind why the list of thousands of shortlisted candidates should be merely pasted at the designated centres, instead of making them available to the media for publication or via online publication. Or, could it be that there is no budgetary allocations for these ministries with regard to recruitment? Or, could it be that the funds earmarked for this purpose were misappropriated by the “nation-builders”? What on earth is the burden of leadership in Nigeria? Or, is it that Nigeria is cursed that things can never be done right even in this era of globalisation and advance in Information Communication and Technology? What manner of perfidy are we doing in Nigeria all in the name of running a government?

It beats one’s imagination that a government that always claims to appreciate and feel the pulse of the poor could send the army of her unemployed youths on compulsory marathon race to their respective geo-political zones, unmindful of the distance from where they reside in the country, all in pretence of attempting to constructively engage them. This is not just callous. It portrays a hallmark of insensitivity on the part of the operators of this government. Otherwise, how many of these shortlisted candidates that travelled to their geo-political zones for the test could afford hotel accommodation, in the event of having no relative or friend to accommodate them for a night or two? What about the population that had little or nothing to eat? Or, the percentage of the population that bivouacked under mango trees in police stations, churches, crusade grounds or in uncompleted buildings? In fact, it is most unfortunate that those in power in Nigeria behave at times as if they have no antecedents or as if they are coming from the moon.

Ideally, Abuja is the nation’s capital and the centre of unity and as such is designed to provide a sort of canopy that accommodates everybody irrespective of state of origin, nationality or ethnic affiliation, yet the organisers of this recruitment test, consciously or unconsciously, decided to wreck this arrangement by insisting that emphasis must be accorded to place of origin, whether convenient for the people or not. It therefore becomes disturbing when some residents or persons born and bred in Abuja are reminded that they are non-indigenes of the North-Central and therefore not qualified to participate in a recruitment exercise being organised by their own Federal Government. And one wonders where lies the oneness or the unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and our old, though clearly elusive, claim that though ‘tribe and tongue may differ but in brotherhood we stand’.

Note: The FCSC released the names of shortlisted candidates by their states and regions and instructed candidates to go to their various regional and  state civil service commission's notice board to check their names, hence do acreditation  for the exam conducted on the 22nd September, 2012.
The list of shortlisted candidates was not released online or via national dailies. The FCSC only released a notice on some national dailies instructing candidates to check their names at their regional or state civil service commissions. However, hotnigerianjobs.com is deeply sorry to have missed that notice and to the candidates who entrusted all their hopes in us for such information, we know we have let you down and can only say WE ARE SORRY.

The various Ministries involved just bluntly refused to do the right thing by not publishing the names of those shortlisted in either newspaper or any of the electronic gadgets.I'm really disappointed in the way and manner the whole thing went. It's unfair.Tell me why God wouldn't be angry with some of our leaders? It's quite unfortunate.

..God bless you mr.Paschal,we can see that people in the helm of affair are very callous and ungrateful, most of them enjoyed free education and were giving job immediately after thier graduation, they have forget all these..who do they need in Labour&Productivity ministries?i think ,it Engineering graduates should be among.in thier shortlistd list in ondo state specifically.they didn't shortlist any of us Engineering graduates that apply for higher technical officer,.my heart bleed for Nigerian youth,May God deliver us

Hmmm.
What a people!!!
I have through the comments, and I discovered that only the few people who wrote the test are in support of the govt. Could it be that they few are wiser than those teaming Nigerians? Certainly not...
It is selfishness. The fact that it favoured them, made it difficult for them to notice that something actually went wrong with others...
That is the spirit of "Nigeria,Good People,Good Nation"
After attending that recriutment test conducted by NIMASA in Lagos,I concluded that Nigeria is "Mad"
Yes,the leaders are mad,all of them!!!
Don't think I am expressing my anger,No.
I am simply saying the truth.
How can you organised a test for more than 50,000 people in one location in 10hours(8:30am-6:30pm) I suppose.Of this 10hrs,you will spend 5hrs to gain entrance into to the venue.
Well my brothers and sisters,I pity us. Those who wrote the test I pity you more, because you will continue from where the bad leaders stop since there is nothing bad in the process that brought you in...
But woo unto if you did not pass the test...
PLS IF YOU DID NOT WRITE PLS SUBMIT YOR CV ONLINE AS THE NEW METHOD OF 'DECIVING US'
They new what they doing, instead of loosing their job due to youth reprisals, they decided to bring a 'smoke screen' call online cv submission,I pray it works....even though they will not cancel the controvacial test of last month.
Keep praying,keep working...

If you are looking for a job you are not expected to sit back at home and expect information, from where? When you dont listen to news, read newspapers or go online, my fellow Nigerians the said news was published, two newspaper's had the publication a whole page, it was on network news i wonder why most people did not get the information, even in the state radio news. like in my state 'Akwa Ibom' it was published in d state and at the zonal office in Port-Harcout. We should be more concern about the accomodation and the transport as applicant, not the awareness because it was done.

this is a serious matter that needs an urgent attention and effective correction, which will certainly abolish this calamity and inhuman maltreatment to our prestigious citizens of this great nation,Nigeria. Many perish while others faced an aggravating stresses in traveling to their various prescribed center for the test. i advise the commission to always use the procedure that is favorable to the people in all their activities and put forward all the necessary facilities which will certainly easy their work in their program mes. Thanks.

My Fellow Nigerians,It's not hurray yet either on the part of FCSC, those who were fortunate to write the aptitude test and those that couldn't write the aptitude test. One thing is paramount to FCSC is that they should ensure that meritocracy takes precedence over mediocrity and nepotism while on the part of those that wrote the aptitude test and those who couldn't write it, there are enormous lessons to learn. The lessons for all Nigerians is that we should always do the right thing at all times. Nothing should be seen as permanent- Presidents, Governors, Senators, Civil Servants among others will always come and go but the state frontiers will remain. Fundamentally, what legacies are they leaving behind for the upcoming generations? If Nigerian Youths' should reflect on the past, they can state whether those entrusted with leadership at any point in time in our country have done well or not! FCSC is on the threshold to making history. This is the time to do what is right to actualize the MDGs, vision 20-20-20, unity of Nigeria as one indivisible entity. It's a sacred duty!

Pple can never b satisfied. Dt is a true human nature. DIs test was announced in d network news on sunday penultimate dat saturday. More so most states brought their list out in d dailies. They even pasted same list on d board of d state counterpart of d commission. See I just feel youths shd demonstrate a bit of desperacy in their genuine search fr employment. Fine if we all believe either to cut some corners or out of sheer undercivilisatn our leaders av failed to go "online" in ds situation. But why can't we who really need this employment try as much as possible to fulfil all righteousness by going all out to search for d info.Even if u can't buy a paper u could free-read. I did d same.let's not make matters worse for ds nation by cursing or apportioning unwarranted blames. Its even a shame with all our youths brava about being online to still say dey didn't hear d news for awhole week. What do u really do online? Only trivialities I suppose? Bcos I've bn hearing comments online bout d exams a whole week b4 d date. U could even access d dailies online. Gud luck and b more aware of ur environment.

It is a pity that in Nigeria, if you didn't have an father, uncle, sister or brother who is wel placed or politician, you can't secure a job in Nigeria. But I trust God, we that have know uncles or father, he wil be our father. The president, should order Ascon to be sincere to themselves. I had Nigeria factors is coming to play. Let the result be release. Federal govt should learn from the governor of rivers, when he conduct his recruitment .

How many people among those that wrote the test will be employed? Some how you might not understand what God saved you from. Think well and say, Thank God i didnt set out 4 ds exam and end up in accident. more than 80% of those that travelled 4 the test might not get the job. Then imagine the wasted funds, time, the inconveniences and discomfort. I think if you missed it, God has a better plan 4 you, just take your chance when it comes.

A very big shame to Nigeria, shame to the president, all the politicians n law makers, shame to u all. When it has come to the point that one who dosent know any body cannot gain employment. Then how do u think u can fight crime when u have no plan for the youths

The truth is that de leaders are indirectly telling us that crime is legalised in Nigeria.Yes bcos employment is going on every day in the civil commission at both State and Federal. You only get it except u know the so called god fathers n politicians. What about those that dosent know any body to assist them.Shame to de president and the leaders of this country bcos they are the pepetraitors of this evil. What about the stolen founds that EFCC is recovering yet the poor get poore n the rich getting reacher.Cant they think of industralising the country or reenergising some industries,no significant of the socalled EFCC recoeries on our economy. Why do our politicians spend billions on campeign which they cannot cover within the time frame of there tenure, bcos their is an evil plan of stealing our money .The rought of God will befall on u and ur families ono by one if u did not change.

its obvious that must of the nigeria youth and adult are not fully aware on many federal recruitment due to the massive poverty in order to buy the recruired needs for betterment of their social background. With this reason i will like to advise fG to look up into the means of communication that will enable the nigerians to be aware of such information, with consideration of their financial implication facing most of nigerians zhose live below 3sqs mills per day i.e to say that whose live in a abject poverty; i do hope honourable minister will consider these for the next time.
