i54 Corporate Services Limited - Our client, CNOOC Exploration & Production Nigeria Limited (the CEPNL), was incorporated in Abuja, Nigeria on 20 January 2006 and is wholly owned by CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Corporation) International Limited, which is mainly responsible for the operation and management of CNOOC’s oil and gas assets in Nigeria.

Job Title: Principal Technical Expert

Location: Lagos

Job Function

• The Principal Technical Expert is responsible for design planning and deployment of specific new products, technologies, components and their integration into systems.

Other function includes: 

• Provide technical liaison with partners to produce high quality solutions for projects, and apply engineering knowledge and principles to devise innovative solutions to unique design problems.
• Work on multiple major projects of high complexity requiring innovative solutions. Noting that decisions have a large impact and results have a critical impact on the objectives and goals of the Company.
• Act independently at the organisation level, be self-supervising, within guidance and expectations of divisional management. 
• Develop and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance 
• Analyse design proposals and the technical information in order to identify and unblock potential issues that could arise during project execution.  
• Lead the development of new features and system requirements 
• Show solid judgement and build consensus, particularly in the face of competing design requirements 
• Analyse and manage multiple design related issues to identify root cause 
• Lead the development of innovative solutions to unique problems 
• Plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Estimate, track and complete projects; safely, with high quality, on time and within budget
• Help beneficiary stakeholders involved in several subsectors of the Oil and Gas Industry, including: Conventional and unconventional Oil and Gas Industry exploration and production, Midstream, Refining and marketing, Oil field service, Equipment manufacturing, environmental, Regulatory, technical training, and policy concerns
• Technical expertise, experience, training, and support for in matters involving environmental and safety regulations

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Master’s degree Project Management or a related field is an added advantage.
• 10 years work experience in the Oil & Gas industry. Previous experience in an International Oil & Gas JV is desirable.
• Candidates should possess 10 years of relevant work experience.
• COREN certified
• Ability to coach, mentor and develop staff of various skills and personalities, including both technical staff and other managers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organisation skills, able to plan, analyse and challenge
• Highly developed analytical skills
• Able to manage a wide variety of activities at the same time
• Able to work cross functionally and collaboratively with many stakeholders
• Solid understanding of all people related processes and procedures.
• Commercial and financial acumen with ability to balance material usage.
• Ability to identify root cause of any losses.
• Ability to work well with and mentor both high and low performers in a team or group environment, setting expectations, and providing input and feedback in a helpful way that fosters accountability.
• Have the technical expertise and experience to train and support for in matters involving environmental and safety regulations.
