Vice-Chancellor at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE)

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), established by the FUPRE Establishment Act (2017), commenced operations in March 2007, with the mandate to develop specialized skills and relevant expertise for the Oil and Gas industry and other allied sectors both nationally and globally. FUPRE, an institution of first choice is the first of its kind in African with state-of-the-art facilities to provide world class education through teaching, research, consultancy and extension services.

The Governing Council, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, hereby announces that the post of Vice- Chancellor of the University will be vacant in May 2025. Pursuant to the provisions of the University's (Establishments) Act, 2017, applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates with cognate experience in university administration to fill the position below:

Job Title: Vice-Chancellor

Location: Effurun, Delta

The Position
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer/Academic Head of the University, Chairman of all the distinct bodies in the University established by law (such as Senate and Congregation) and a member of the Governing Council of the University. His duties include but not limited to:

• General supervision and control of daily activities of the University
• General responsibility to the Governing Council for the maintenance and promotion of the efficiency and good order of the University
• Ensuring the full implementation of the FUPRE (Establishment) Act, 2017 with a view to bringing the desired transformation of the infrastructural and academic development of the University
• Ensuring that the provisions of the laws, statutes, ordinances and by-laws of the University are observed to the letter
• Advising the Council on any matter affecting the policies, finances, and general administration of the University.

Qualities and Qualifications of the Candidate
The applicant must:

• Be a Professor with proven capacity to provide exemplary University leadership, from a recognized University, and in a discipline relevant to the programmes being run in the University.
• Must possess a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Academic Ph.D.)
• Have proven record of research & scholarship, and whose research pedigree has earned him/her the respect of his peers both nationally and internationally.
• Have evidence of prudent resource management.
• Be of unquestionable integrity and ready to make sacrifices for the common good of the University.
• Understand the contemporary demands of leadership of a University.
• Be able to command the respect and loyalty of members of staff/students and the general public (Community Acceptance).
• Not more than sixty two (62) years on the day of assumption of office. ix. Be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliant.
• Be someone who can readily align with the university's vision and mission for accelerated development.
• Have valid certifications of good physical and mental health, along with a clean medical report.
• Be imaginative, innovative, dynamic, resourceful, responsive, and have the ability to aggregate excellent human capacity to promote team work.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal and team-building spirit/skills and ability to build bridges between all relevant stakeholders,
• Demonstrate the entrepreneurial drive expected of a 21st Century specialized university with a proven ability to attract both local and international grants and prizes for research and development.

Terms and Conditions of Service
The right candidate shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years ONLY on such terms and conditions as are applicable to occupants of the post in other Federal Government-owned universities and as may be specified in his/her letter of appointment.
