The responsibility of the Publications Officer centres around defining what constitutes appropriate material for publication and identifying potential contributors; manages the publication process from conceptualisation to published materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Managing the ECOWAS publications process and ensuring its administration (prepare cost plans, budgets and forecasts).
- To assist in developing a strategy for ECOWAS publications to ensure their relevance and coherence.
- Leading publications projects, including design and artwork where appropriate, and ensuring a consistent approach.
- Provide professional and technical advice to Programme Officers on format, length and content of publications, as well as the choice of medium
- Propose and assist in developing policies and ensuring that ECOWAS publications-related policies are applied.
- To assist in Developing distribution strategies for all publications in all available languages in cooperation with relevant substantive officers.
- Develop a feedback mechanism for publications and carry out audience research.
- Liaise with field presences (including Programme Directorates) regarding their need for publications.
- Ensure ECOWAS publications remain up to date.
- Write and compile content for public awareness products such as , brochures, newsletters, posters, etc
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications/Experience/Skills
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in communication, management, public administration or related area
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in publishing; proven experience in formulating and managing a publications project start-to-finish
- Candidate should not be 50 years old or over at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS member states.
- Must be fluent in one of the official languages of the Commission; English, French and Portuguese. A working knowledge of another would be an advantage.
