The College of Health Technology, Calabar, started as the Institute of Public Health in the latter part of 1970, using the Diamond Health Centre, Diamond Hill, Calabar as its temporary site. During this period, twenty-one (21) School Health Attendants and five (5) Community Nursing Students were admitted for training. Early in 1971, the Institute moved to No. 2 Hawkins Road, Calabar, yet another temporary accommodation. Other cadres of Health personnel trained by the School were Rural Health Assistants and Leprosy Attendants. The College moved to its permanent site at Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar in 1975.
In 1976, the name of the Institution was changed to the School of Health Technology following its approval by the Federal Ministry of Health. In the same year, the first batch of Public Health Nurses, direct intake of Community Midwives, Rural Health Superintendents, Public Health Superintendents (now Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEWs)), Medical Records Assistants and Assistant Medical Records Officers were trained. The staff strength of the College has since then grown for both Academic and Non-Academic staff complementary to the College expansions.

Job Description
The College Librarian is the chief Library Officer and shall be responsible to the Provost for the day-to-day administration of the College Library and co-ordination of the Library services in the teaching units of the College.
He/she is one of the Principal Officers of the College.
In addition to proven experience in library management and leadership, the successful candidate must have a demonstrable passion for academic endeavors and must also be credible.
Qualifications and Experience
The candidate for the post must possess the following qualifications and qualities:
Master's Degree from a recognized institution in Library Science or Library and Information Science; Doctorate degree (Ph.D) is an added advantage
Have a minimum of second class lower division or Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a lower credit in Library Science or Library and Information Science from a recognized institution of Higher Learning;
18+ years cognate experience in tertiary institutions, at least 10 years of which must have been gained in a Polytechnic or similar TVET institution.
Be currently on the rank of a Chief Librarian for a period NOT less than five (5) years in a Polytechnic or similar TVET sector
Demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative and creativity in library policy, good human relations and positive managerial attributes
Be not more than fifty-nine (59) years of age as at 1st January, 2025
Provide evidence of membership of professional body/bodies in Library recognized by the Federal Government;
Provide evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals as well as presentation of invited papers at educational/library conferences, seminars, and workshops
A person who is not likely to pursue racial, gender, political, religious or other sectional interests;
Morally sound, of impeccable character, proven integrity and free from financial embarrassment; and Physically and mentally fit (with evidence from a Government hospital
Proficient in Information and Communication Technology, (ICT).
Terms of Appointment and Conditions of Service
The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years in line with extant provisions.
The salary is consolidated and the appointee shall enjoy any other benefits attached to the position of a Principal Officer of the College as approved by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
