Gombe State University is located in Gombe State, in the central Northeastern part of Nigeria. It is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The University is made up of various Faculties namely: Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as a School of Post-Graduate Studies, and a School of Basic and Remedial Studies. The University also has a College of Medical Sciences, which is made up of three Faculties namely: Faculty of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences and Faculty of Clinical Sciences.

Job Description
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, Chairman of the Senate and Member of the Governing Council of the University.
Among other functions, the Vice-Chancellor shall:
Be competent at all times to advise the Council on any matter affecting the policy, finances, and administration of the University.
Be generally responsible to the Council for maintaining the efficiency and good order of the University and for ensuring the proper enforcement of Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations.
Be responsible for staff and students discipline in the University.
Regulate the admission of the students in accordance with the guidelines and procedures approved by the Senate.
Qualifications and Qualities of the Candidate
Interested candidates for the position of Vice -Chancellor, Gombe State University, Gombe, is expected to be:
Should be a highly distinguished academic of the rank of Professor with proven ability to provide exemplary academic leadership and managerial capacity.
Must have been teaching in University system for a period of not less than ten (10) years.
Should be information and Communication Technology (ICT) proficient, and be committed to the deployment of ICT into the University programmes and services.
Must be of sound physical and mental health (certified by government hospital) and
Should not be above the age of sixty-five (65) years at the point of assumption of duty (evidenced by a statutory declaration of age or birth certificate).
Expected Qualities of the Candidate:
Interested candidate for the position of the Vice Chancellor, Gombe State University is expected:
To be of high moral standards and impeccable character and proven integrity with irrevocable commitment to best practices in corporate governance, with particular emphasis on accountability, transparency and probity.
Must be able to ensure effective utilization of limited resources for maximum public good.
Have the ability to attract grants and funds to the University from local and international agencies (proof of past attractions shall be added advantage)
Have the capacity to foster linkages with institutions within and outside Nigeria (proof of linkages fostered shall be added advantage).
Should be a person with clear vision for the development of a first-class University, even when under financial constraints.
Should be a person who is not likely to promote personal, ethnic, political, religious or other factional interest.
Be a person who is capable of inspiring the members of the University community towards the attainment of its goals.
The candidate should have a good understanding of the Vision and Mission of the University.
The candidate should be able to command respect as well as the loyalty of members of staff, students and the University community.
Have the capacity to ensure the enforcement of the University laws and regulations.
The candidate should be able to relate effectively with government, non-governmental organizations, the alumni and the local communities and foster linkages with institutions within and outside Nigeria.

Tenure:
The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years

The salaries and conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in Nigerian Universities as determined by Council and Government from time to time.
