The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi was established in 1980 as the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Bauchi, located in the North Eastern part of Nigeria with Dr. Jerome Udoji and Professor A. O. Adekola as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor respectively, while Alh. Adamu Aliyu was the first Registrar of the University.

Job Description

• The Director of audit is responsible for leading the university's audit function and ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
• The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and direction for the audit department and ensure that the university's financial and operational activities are conducted in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the audit department.
• Develop and implement the university's audit strategy and plans. iii. Conduct risk-based audits of the university's financial and operational activities.
• Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes.
• Assure the reliability and accuracy of financial reporting.
• Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
• Supervise and evaluate the performance of audit staff.

Requirements

• At least a second-class lower honors degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Professional certification in Accounting or Auditing (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIA, ICAN, ANAN).
• A minimum 15 years of post-qualification experience in auditing, with at least 5 years in a senior management position in a university or similar institution.
• Proven experience in leading audit functions in a university or similar institution.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Conditions of Service

• The successful candidate will be appointed for a single term of four (4) years and entitled to the benefits and allowances approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governing Council as the case may be.
