The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Bauchi was established in 1980 as the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Bauchi, located in the North Eastern part of Nigeria with Dr. Jerome Udoji and Professor A. O. Adekola as the pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor respectively, while Alh. Adamu Aliyu was the first Registrar of the University.

Job Title: Director, University Farm

Job Summary

• The Director, of University Farm, is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for the university's farm, ensuring the effective management of farm operations, and promoting agricultural research, teaching, and extension services and agri- business entrepreneurship.
• The successful candidate will oversee the management of the university's farm facilities, including crop and livestock production, and ensure the farm's contribution to the university's revenue generation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and direction for the university farm.
• Oversee the management of farm operations, including crop and livestock production.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for farm management.
• Promote agricultural research, teaching, and extension services.
• Initiate innovative approaches to establishing agri-business
• ventures.
• Collaborate with academic departments to integrate farm operations with teaching and research.
• Supervise and evaluate the performance of farm staff.
• Manage the budget and resources of the university farm.

Requirements

• A minimum of a second-class lower honors Degree in Agriculture with a specialization in Animal or crop Science.
• Evidence of current registration with a relevant professional body is an added advantage.
• A minimum 15 years of post-qualification experience in agricultural management, with at least 3 as Deputy Director in a University Farm.
• Proven experience in managing farm operations, including crop and livestock production.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Conditions of Service

• The successful candidate will be appointed for a single term of four (4) years and entitled to the benefits and allowances approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Governing Council as the case may be.
