We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Legal Compliance Officer

Location: Lagos

Description

  • Legal Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring the company's adherence to legal and regulatory requirements within the media industry.
  • This role requires a detail-oriented legal professional with a strong background in compliance, regulatory affairs, and an understanding Direct Report: Head of Legal

Responsibilities

  • Stay updated on Nigerian laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting the media sector.
  • Develop, implement, and update compliance policies and procedures to align with Nigerian legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with legal and business teams to review and assess contractual obligations for compliance with Nigerian laws.
  • Provide guidance on contract terms and conditions to ensure alignment with local legal and regulatory standards.
  • Manage and oversee the process of obtaining and renewing licenses and permits required for media operations in Nigeria.
  • Stay informed about and ensure compliance with Nigerian licensing requirements.
  • Implement and maintain policies and practices to ensure compliance with Nigerian data protection and privacy laws.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and provide guidance on data protection issues related to media operations in Nigeria.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on compliance-related matters tailored to the Nigerian context.
  • Ensure awareness and understanding of compliance policies and procedures among Nigerian employees.
  • Establish monitoring mechanisms to track compliance with Nigerian legal requirements.
  • Prepare regular reports for senior management on the status of compliance initiatives and potential areas of concern specific to Nigeria.
  • Conduct internal investigations related to potential compliance issues in Nigeria.
  • Coordinate external audits and work with auditors to address compliance-related concerns
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of compliance activities, ensuring compliance with legal documentation standards.
  • Ensure the availability of documentation for regulatory inspections within Nigeria.

Additional Information:

  • Works & Interacts With: with the Legal team and other members of the WMG.
  • Work Location: Corporate Office at Ikeja and Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, and any other project location, as may be required to complete work responsibilities.

Requirements
About You:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in legal compliance, preferably in the media industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of media-related regulations, licensing requirements, and data protection laws.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Membership in the Nigerian Bar Association (or other relevant professional bodies).

Ability to/ Demonstrate:

  • Solid understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and legal principles applicable to the organization's industry.
  • Ability to conduct thorough legal research to stay informed about changes in laws and regulations.
  • Clear and effective communication, both written and verbal, to convey legal information to colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • The ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide sound advice or recommendations.
  • Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts to protect the organization's interests.
  • Ensuring the organization's activities align with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to identify legal issues and develop practical solutions to address them.
  • Maintaining high ethical standards and integrity in all legal matters.
  • Managing workload efficiently and meeting deadlines for legal tasks and projects.
  • Working collaboratively with other departments and teams within the organization.
