Job Function
To execute extensive bodywork repair duties encompassing the removal, repair, replacement, fitting, and fine-tuning of body panels, addressing both accident-related damages and modifications.
Key Performance Areas
Performing Body Repair Work:
Execute body repair tasks assigned by the workshop engineer or superior within specified timelines, maintaining professionalism and adhering to estimated costs.
Realign chassis and body frames using chassis aligners and precise measuring systems.
Remove and replace accident-related mechanical items and auto-electric components as needed.
Use pick hammers, punches, and welding techniques to rectify small pits and dimples in body metal.
Welding Operations and Maintenance:
Effectively operate gas and arc welding machines for cutting and joining replacement sections or damaged panels.
Ensure proper and safe maintenance of all workshop tools.
Apply correct welding procedures independently, with minimal technical assistance, and develop expertise in the role.
Collaboration and Customer Relations:
Assist the spray painter as required in the repair process.
Unbolt or cut away damaged panels and components when necessary.
Assess vehicle damage accurately and prepare comprehensive quotes for customers.
Maintain meticulous records of scheduled work, monitor quality control for all performed tasks, and uphold positive customer relations throughout the repair process.
Qualifications Required
WAEC, Trade test 1,2 & 3
Qualified Technician.
Experience and Skills Required:
2 - 4 years experience in a Truck and Trailer Workshop.
Experienced in all make and Models of Truck/Trailers
Ability to understand operating modalities of mechanical systems.
Understanding of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicle bodies.
Familiarity with safety protocols concerning the use of tools, equipment, and supplies for vehicle repair and maintenance. Knowledgeable about body and frame construction methods.
Proficiency in using a diverse range of hand tools.
Proficient in operating gas and electric welding equipment.
Competent in utilizing mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists for repair tasks.
Technical expertise in materials selection and utilization, ensuring appropriate choices for effective repair and maintenance procedures.
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with colleagues and interacting with customers.
