Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Purpose

• To design, develop, and oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment within various construction projects. 
• The Mechanical Engineer will ensure that all mechanical components are functional, safe, and efficient while meeting project requirements, quality standards, and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review mechanical designs, specifications, and drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical systems in line with project requirements.
• Perform technical calculations and simulations to determine mechanical performance and safety standards.
• Evaluate and select appropriate materials and equipment for mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with architects, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems into the overall building design.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate mechanical engineering activities to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
• Monitor and control project costs, ensuring efficient resource allocation and minimizing wastage.
• Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems on construction sites.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and project specifications during the installation process.
• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure quality control and adherence to design specifications.
• Develop maintenance schedules and procedures for mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults, providing technical solutions to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure timely repairs and upgrades.
• Ensure all mechanical systems comply with local, state, and national regulations, as well as company standards.
• Perform quality assurance checks and inspections to ensure the highest standards of workmanship.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of all mechanical engineering activities, including drawings, specifications, and maintenance records.
• Evaluate and manage suppliers and subcontractors for mechanical components and services.
• Review and approve vendor proposals, ensuring alignment with project requirements and budgets.
• Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering.
• Identify opportunities for improving mechanical systems, processes, and project delivery.
• Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and technicians as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 3 - 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the construction or real estate industry.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or other mechanical design software.
• Experience with project management tools and software.
