Job Title: Able Seaman (AB)

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Position Overview

• We are seeking a competent and qualified vessel AB with an unwavering commitment to safety. 
• The AB will be responsible for assisting in the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, ensuring compliance with maritime laws and regulations, and fostering a positive onboard environment. 

Key Responsibilities

• Assisting the deck officers in navigation, lookout duties, and steering the vessel as required.
• Standing watch to ensure vessel safety, monitoring for hazards, and reporting to the Captain and officer on duty.
• Handling mooring lines, securing the vessel to docks, and assisting with anchoring operations.
• Assisting in the loading, securing, and unloading of cargo, ensuring proper stowage and weight distribution.
• Inspecting and maintaining deck machinery, mooring gear, and safety equipment.
• Ensuring adherence to maritime safety regulations, and safety protocols and reporting any hazards or equipment malfunctions to superiors.
• Ensure the vessel is in proper operational condition, including regular maintenance checks and communication with the engineering team.
• Respond to emergencies promptly and effectively, safeguarding the crew and the vessel.

Skills & Qualifications

• Valid AB License and relevant certifications (STCW, etc.).
• A minimum of 5 years experience as a Vessel AB or in a similar leadership role.
• Knowledge of maritime regulations, navigation, and safety procedures. 
• Effective communication skills to effectively manage a diverse crew. Experience working onboard security vessels is preferred.
