Social Behavioral Change Manager at Girl Effect

Posted on Wed 26th Feb, 2025 - hotnigerianjobs.com --- (0 comments)

Girl Effect is a creative non-profit empowering girls to change their lives. Started by the Nike Foundation, we are experts in media, mobile, brand and international development: a unique mix of skills that we use to solve global problems in a different way.

We work across the world in the places where girls are marginalised and vulnerable. We create for young people in ways they love and interact with. And it's all delivered through the media and mobile tech they use every day – from apps that build skills, to TV dramas that explore vital issues, to magazines written by girls.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Social Behavioral Change Manager

Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Employment Type: 12 months contract

Context of the Role

  • Girl Effect aspires to be at the cutting edge of Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) and is looking for an SBC Manager to support the design and implementation of our work in Nigeria.
  • Reaching adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 9-24 years, our programming seeks to support their mental well-being, sexual health and economic empowerment opportunities.
  • The SBC Manager is directly responsible for the management and overall success of our SBC strategy, including the integration of gender-responsive and transformative programming. This includes creating country specific country SBCC strategies that are aligned to the global Theory of change.
  • This role will work alongside the Global Director, SBC, Gender and Youth Participation, to implement existing work, design new programs and unlock potential funding opportunities to enhance gender equality in Nigeria.

Responsibilities
What you will do:

  • Develop comprehensive social behavior change strategies based on a deep understanding of the target audience, cultural context, and relevant social issues. For example, outcomes mapping, behavioral tactics and key messaging.
  • Develop and implement detailed SBCC implementation plans and ensure high quality and timeline delivery of deliverables against intended objectives, targets, and timelines.
  • Embed gender considerations into all aspects of Nigeria activities, ensuring that gender is mainstreamed across policies, programs, and practices.
  • Develop and integrate gender-sensitive, responsive, and where possible, transformative messaging into project activities.
  • Coordinate with the M&E team to put in place effective monitoring and evaluation approaches to measure the effectiveness of Nigeria’s SBC programming. For example, measurement frameworks and indicators, research tools and pre-testing activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align strategies in Nigeria with Girl Effect organizational goals and objectives.
  • Write success stories and reports on SBCC approaches or interventions and identify channels of dissemination.
  • In some cases, support funding proposals/concept notes and donor reporting.
  • As required, facilitate SBC and gender training for staff, partners and young people.

Requirements
Who you are:

  • Degree in a relevant field such as Psychology, Communication, International Development, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Psychology, Behavioral Economics, or similar field.
  • Experience working with digital media is highly desirable, or, at the very least, familiarity with digital trends and emerging evidence.
  • 7+ years’ experience delivering sexual health/family planning and or/ economic empowerment programs for adolescent girls and young women in Nigeria.
  • Solid understanding of how gendered norms and intersectionality affect young women in Nigeria, and the role SBCC programmes can play in creating change.
  • Strong background in applying behavioral science and SBCC theory to practice coupled with at least in research projects, advocacy campaigns and/or behavioural change programmes.
  • Excellent knowledge of gender transformative approaches and their application to programme design, implementation and/or measurement.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience working with young people or community members in the design and delivery of programmes is also desirable.

What else you should know

  • As we continue to scale and grow - we are hugely ambitious for our future, and we are looking for people who are driven to change the world for girls.
  • Our teams are a diverse mix across sectors (non-profit and commercial) and specialisms (from Brand and Creative through to Gender and Insight).
  • You’ll learn and grow in an environment that will challenge you to think and work with a fresh perspective.
  • In turn, you can expect to work somewhere where you will be stretched and developed in your role, a place where you can build your career and work with talented, engaged people committed to our cause.
  • Girl Effect is committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
  • We are committed to building an organization that is increasingly representative of the communities that we serve. To this end, due regard will be paid to recruiting candidates with diverse professional, academic and cultural backgrounds.
  • This role is subject to a standard background disclosure.
  • This role is being recruited for on a 12 month contract basis.
