Job Title: Finance Officer
Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Summary
As a Finance Officer at Hamu Legal, you will be responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the firm, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting functions.
You will play a key role in maintaining financial records, processing transactions, managing cash flow, and ensuring that all financial obligations are met on time.
Responsibilities
Accounting and Bookkeeping:
Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate financial records.
Generate and issue fee-notes, based on work assessment form shared and also ensure they are reviewed and approved by lawyers.
Track and follow up on outstanding client payments, ensuring timely collection of receivables.
Ensure lawyers regularly record their billable hours and meet billing deadlines for time-based transactions.
Financial Reporting
Prepare and maintain financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Assist in monthly and annual financial closings, reconciling accounts as needed.
Budgeting and Cash Flow Management:
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
Track expenditures and ensure financial activities align with the budget
Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the firm meets its financial obligations.
Tax and Compliance Management:
Assist in tax filings and ensure timely remittance of statutory payments (VAT, PAYE, pension, etc.).
Work closely with accounting partners, external auditors and tax consultants to ensure smooth financial audits.
Stay updated on changes in tax laws and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Vendor and Expense Management:
Process payments to vendors, and service providers, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
Maintain vendor records and negotiate favorable payment terms where possible.
Payroll Administration:
Process payroll, ensuring accurate salary calculations and timely disbursements.
Ensure statutory deductions (e.g., pensions, taxes) are correctly applied and remitted.
Financial Controls and Process Improvement:
Ensure financial policies and procedures are followed in daily operations.
Identify areas for process improvement to enhance financial efficiency and transparency.
Support in implementing internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments to support financial decision-making.
Provide financial insights and reports to management when needed.
Assist in training staff on financial policies and procedures as required.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma in Finance or Accounting. A professional certification (e.g., ACCA, ICAN) is a plus.
Proven experience in an accounting or finance role, preferably within a law firm or professional services setting.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of Nigerian financial regulations and compliance requirements.
