Job Overview
The Gas Turbine Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gas turbines and associated mechanical systems.
This role ensures optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of gas turbine units by conducting inspections, troubleshooting faults, and performing scheduled maintenance in accordance with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) guidelines and industry best practices.
Job Description
Maintenance & Repair:
Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on gas turbines, compressors, gearboxes, and auxiliary equipment.
Diagnose mechanical issues and execute repairs, including disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and alignment of turbine components.
Conduct borescope inspections to assess turbine blade conditions and detect early signs of wear or damage.
Replace and overhaul turbine components such as bearings, seals, fuel nozzles, and combustion liners.
Ensure proper lubrication, cooling, and filtration of turbine systems.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
Identify and resolve mechanical faults in gas turbine units, ensuring minimal downtime.
Utilize diagnostic tools and vibration analysis equipment to assess machine health.
Collaborate with control system engineers to diagnose turbine control issues.
Compliance & Safety:
Follow OEM maintenance procedures and industry standards to ensure safe and efficient turbine operation.
Adhere to all safety protocols, including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures and confined space entry guidelines.
Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental guidelines.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain detailed maintenance records, including work orders, inspection reports, and parts usage.
Document findings from inspections and recommend corrective actions.
Provide technical feedback and improvement recommendations to engineering teams.
Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
Work closely with electrical, instrumentation, and controls teams to optimize turbine performance.
Participate in technical training programs to stay updated on the latest gas turbine technologies.
Assist in root cause analysis for recurring turbine issues and propose long-term solutions.
Qualifications
A Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Plant Technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years in gas turbine maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in rotating equipment and turbine systems.
Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
Knowledge of safety procedures, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and hazard assessments.
Ability to use precision measurement tools and diagnostic equipment.
OEM Gas Turbine Maintenance Certifications such as GE, Siemens, Rolls-Royce, etc. will be an added advantage.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work in high-pressure environments and adhere to strict maintenance schedules.
Required Skills:
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
Knowledge of gas turbine operating principles, thermodynamics, and aerodynamics.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and maintenance manuals.
Experience with precision alignment, vibration analysis, and borescope inspections.
Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and fuel systems in gas turbines.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
