Institute Secretary at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS)

The Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) is Nigeria's apex and premier institution of legal research and training. It was established in March 1979 and has the mandate to provide support facilities for postgraduate studies in any field of law in Nigeria, as well as conduct legal and related research to enhance national development and the application of the results of research in the country's interest.

NIALS also offers specialised degree-awarding programmes such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Legislative Drafting (PGDLD), Master’s Degree in Legislative Drafting (LLM), and PhD programme in Legislative Drafting.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Institute Secretary

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities

• The Institute Secretary is responsible to the Director-General for the day-to-day administrative work of the Institute, as well as serving as the Secretary to the Governing Council of the Institute.

Requirements

• By direct appointment of a candidate with a minimum of a second-class degree in the Social Sciences or Humanities with at least Fifteen (15) years of post-qualification cognate experience. 
• Possession of a law degree is an added advantage.
• By direct appointment of a holder of a Master’s degree plus at least Thirteen (13) years of cognate experience.
• The Institute seeks a candidate with distinction, managerial ability, integrity, and transparency in both private and public life. The candidate should also have the ability to develop external linkages with wider communities and engender harmony within the Institute community at all times.
• He/she must exhibit adequate leadership traits and an impeccable record of service.
• Recognised professional membership such as CIPMN, NIM, CIS, CIA, etc., will be an added advantage.

Salary & Condition of Service
As applicable and obtainable in Nigerian public universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Tenure of Office

• The Three (3) Principal Officers will each serve a tenure of Five (5) years.
• Candidates seeking these offices should not be more than Fifty-Eight (58) years of age on assumption of office.
